Honeyed and floral aromas bloom from this dry crisp mead. Lightly weighted but with good density holding it up, this mead has a very long finish, leaving chamomile, spring flowers, citrus fruit, and a piquant honey taste on the palate.

Bob Lynde is a native of Portland Oregon who fell in love with South Africa and its wines while the country still faced an international economic boycott. When the boycott was lifted in the early ‘90s, he was ready, founding Cape Classics, one of the first companies to import South African wines to the US. He began a collaborative project with local growers, the “Bob’s African” line of wines—solid sippers offering great value—and 10% of the proceeds went to local NGOs in the communities where the wines were produced. He sold the import company in 2005 to focus on developing the Fat Barrel Brand, which includes both South African and Oregon wines, and continues the Bob’s wines as well. The Fat Barrel line of wines uses fruit grown by “selected” growers that Fat Barrel has worked with for more than 10 years.

A robustly aromatic wine with salt water, lychee, sungold tomato, melon and green tea with some light rose water. The inviting aromatics are matched on the palate with salty minerality, fresh herbs and green tea. The texture of this wine is complex, lovely, and has mouthwatering acidity with a waxy texture.

The color is clear and bright. The nose is fresh and clean with expressive flavor characteristics of passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and black currant.  2023 is an exceptional, high-quality, memorable vintage for Napa; winemakers describe the wines as having freshness, purity, and elegance overall. On the nose, aromas of stone fruit and lychee with a delicate honeysuckle fragrance. The palate is refined and elegant, with a round mouthfeel that is complemented by a pop of brightness. Flavors of peach, apricot, and citrus are layered with hints of tropical fruit, providing a delightful complexity that lingers on the finish.

With a golden hue and green reflections, this cuvée expresses the full potential of Rolle with freshness and fruitiness, in a harmonious ensemble: white flowers and peach give way to lemony scents of Semillon and Ugni Blanc. Light, lively, and silky at the same time, it is easy to drink and thirst-quenching with a final note of citrus that complements the great complexity of this wine.

Bright apple and pear fragrance can be found on the nose. On the palate, orchard fruits abound with touches of fresh herbs framing the fruit. The texture is juicy, yet rounded, with just-right concentration and freshness. This dry white finishes with apple, pear, clementine and white pepper notes.

Ripe and round with stone fruits including peach, apricot, and marmalade. Zippy and clean with tropical pineapple notes and a kiss of sweetness to balance.

A classic gruner that tastes like nectarine, pear and salt with medium texture, a touch of prickle, some lees and a mineral driven finish. This is a nice value that is fresh and crisp.

Freshly grated lime zest greet the taster with pear, apple and wet stone minerality. This lovely Gewurztraminer gives aromas of lychee, ginger skin, rosewater and honeysuckle following on to a bright and flavorful palate where lychee, jasmine, ginger, pear, and lime zest add complexity. It is medium plus in body, with good ripeness, integrated acidity and a round texture, finishing with citrusy notes.

From the producer: Generously fruit-forward and refreshingly light, the Riesling Semi-Dry displays our signature varietal's natural verve. Sourced from early picks in vineyard blocks surrounding Seneca Lake, it offers aromas of wildflower and orchard fruit against a lean, citrus backbone.

From the Producer: 01/2024: Bright pale yellow colour. The nose is impressive, precise, showing wet stones aromas typical from granitic soils, still tighter and leaner than the Riesling Roche Granitique (the younger vines) but eventually opens up with aeration and revealing white fruit aromas. The palate has a mineral density, voluptuous with tension. The finish is dry and long, showing a reassuring richness. The absence of stress in the vineyard can be seen in this harmonious wine that will be capable of good ageing.

From the producer:  Pale yellow colour. The nose is still on its reserve but the signature of the limestone marls is very present: citrus fruits, wet stone and opens towards the flower of acacia, even lime blossom over time. Both discreet and at the same time seductive. The energy of the wine felt on the nose is found on the palate. The attack is ample, the wine coats the mouth with harmony and power, opening on a beautiful aromatic complexity of ripe fruit. The typical acidity of this cru is found on the finish, tense and salivating, broad and caressing, under the influence of the clay which brings power and delicacy to the wine. It is a wine that has a very long aging potential!

From the producer: 01/2024: Pale yellow colour. Restraint nose, profoundly influenced by the volcanic soil: smoke, flint, earthy, which eventually opens to more fruity aromas after a long aeration. Very complex nose but a strong originality and identity. The palate at first appears to have a medium power but builds up to a long dry aftertaste. As often in the past, the Rangen Riesling always manages to hide its power in his youth. Harmonious structure, vivacious acidity which finishes with strong salty flavours, adding to the length of the wine. This wine appears to be delicately chiselled and full of energy in a solar and warm vintage. To keep!

From the producer: Pale yellow colour. The nose shows the strong limestone influence: mineral, stone driven, citrus fruits and some white fruits (peach) after some aeration. The wine fermented in a large recent oak cask (foudre) and was on full lees until bottling. The palate is quite strict, bone dry, with a racy sapid acidity that gives a juicy texture on the finish. The wine has a nice concentration, but because it is bone dry with a ripe acidity, it feels elegant and delicate.

Aromas of dark fruits, light earth and nutmeg introduce this wine. It is medium plus in body with blackberry, black raspberry, baking spice, dark earth and tobacco. Although it offers density, the tannins and acid are well integrated, giving a soft and silky texture. It’s the perfect party quaffer or pair with steak, beef stew, or roasted lamb shanks, liberally involving charring, grilling or smoking. You can also enjoy this South American red with stuffed peppers, mushrooms, beans and Mexican dishes.

Seductive notes of earth, turned leaves, and dark wild blackberries greet you on the nose of this Cru Beaujolais. The medium bodied wine follows the nose with fresh fruit of blueberry, blackberry and black raspberries, along with an equal dose of mineral, stone and earth.  This is juicy with crisp acidity and fine tannins.

Between medium and full-bodied, this offering from Southeastern Spain is chock full of mulberries, cooked plums and raspberries with a sprinkling of cocoa. Baking spices and a hint of underbrush linger through the finish.

Aromas are predominantly red fruited–cherry, raspberry, plum and spice box. There’s some fresh fig as well as spiced sweet cherry. This is a seamlessly textured wine with fine tannins. It’s medium-plus in weight with raspberry and raspberry coulis along with bramble; juicy acidity keeps it balanced.

From the Producer: Founded in 1982, Au Bon Climat (which means "a well-exposed vineyard") produces internationally-recognized Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc wine from grapes grown in California's Santa Barbara County.

Aromas of mulling spices and Moroccan souk spices combine with dark berries, tar and smoke to entice you to this Pinot Noir. It is between medium and full bodied with considerable concentration, yet it is not heavy. Macerated red and black cherries join pressed rose, mulling spices, bittersweet cacao nibs and a note of tar. The tannins are velvety and acid is integrated. With air, spiced black currants and smoke evolve on the long finish.

Aromas of fresh and smoky blackberries and plums. On the palate, this is medium weight or slightly less in body, with flavors of black currants, blackberry seeds, cherries, earth and smoke. It is medium in acid with fine tannins. This red is silky and fresh… the ultimate picnic wine! Note: This is a liter bottle.

Brambly fruit like cassis, blackberry, and black cherry scents with white pepper. This wine is lithe with toothy tannins and velvet texture. The flavors have nice concentration with good acidic lift. The finish is very dry and a little hot with iron and minerality on the end.

The grape Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Aromas include blackberry, black currant and touches of espresso and smoke. This medium-weight wine has juicy blackberry and blueberry notes supported by distinctive and well-integrated liquid smoke flavors. It is nicely balanced with medium acidity and sleek tannins, with mocha lingering on the finish. 

Earthy, savory aromas lead to a palate supported by fine tannins and red fruit. Strawberry coulis, red raspberry, and smokey tea notes round out the palate of the supple, medium-bodied wine.

Aromas are complex, with smoke, raspberry compote, red currant candy, chocolate, and spice. The palate offers a variety of red berry fruit, lightly cooked so it releases juice. Black cherry and cassis are also present, along with toast, baking spice, and mineral notes. The wine is medium to full bodied with moderate acid and youthful tannins that will meld with age.

Bodegas El Nido was founded in 2002 and is part of the Gil Family Estate. The vineyards are comprised of 64 acres of old vine Monastrell, and 45 acres of 2- year old Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in barrels for about two years. This wine is big, complex and generous.

Dark cherry, cola, and spice aromas entice on the nose. The palate is warming with more dark fruits, chocolate-covered raisins and touches of campfire and pepper. Velvety tannins support the spicy finish of this fuller-bodied wine.

Aromas of leather and ripe fruits such as fig and prune introduce this wine. It is medium-plus in body with morello cherry and bitter cocoa flavors. The texture is quite supple with rounded tannins and moderate acidity.  Enjoy it with short ribs, hearty stews, charcuterie, or with sundried tomato pesto, lentils or black bean burritos.

Aromas are of red cherry, black cherry, plum, prune, rosemary and cinnamon. The palate gives complex flavors that include black cap raspberries and blackberries, along with cinnamon and cedar spice, Italian herbs, wood notes and a sweet smokiness. The finish in this delicious "baby Barolo" is long and structured.

The aromas are dark and rich with black cherry, concentrated cassis and stewed black fruit with a mineral back bone and a hint of smoke. The palate is mineral and more tart red fruit with moderate acidity. Rich and plush, with concentrated cherry tart, plum pudding and dark currant flavors that are well-structured, showing cocoa powder and allspice accents on the open-textured finish. Aromas of cured meat, tar, and smoky dark fruit lead to flavors of charred, tar, ash, and darker fruits like black cherries and black currants. This wine has a lovely texture for Nebbiolo, with soft tannins and medium acidity providing structure.

This 100% Syrah shows classic elements of black cherry, red plum, and garrigue on the nose. It is terroir-driven with sandalwood, licorice, light smoke, garrigue and amaro-esque medicinal herbs. The palate is medium weight with just-right acidity, rendering it a pleasant and easy drinking wine with nice complexity. Try with braises of root vegetables or with beans or lentils, chicken, lamb and beef dishes, or sautéed mushrooms. Add rosemary and thyme to pick up the wine’s herbal profile.

Les Hérétiques is a rustic wine, speaking strongly of its terroir. The nose offers spice, cedar, and black cherry fruit, and touches of iron/earth. The tannins are quite present but well-integrated with more black cherries, spice and a lingering meaty quality.

Rustic and savory aromas include brambly black berries, strawberry fruit leather, roasted red pepper and cured meats. Flavors lead with sandalwood notes supported by cranberry, mulberry and supple, integrated tannins. Touches of smoke and white pepper linger on the finish.

This is classic Bordeaux with equal parts berry fruit mixing with savory, earth elements. It is medium weight wine, and the fruit is just ripe, with plenty of acidity giving the wine lift and rendering it an excellent food partner. You'll find plum, mixed cherry and tart blackberry along with notes of horse stable (suede and saddle, forest, soil). These elements are nicely intertwined on a lithe frame. You can enjoy with midweight foods such as poultry, pizza, meatloaf or mushrooms.

This cote du rhone presents aromas of smoke, dark fruit, and spice. Medium plus in body, with dark fruit, black currants, blackberries, dark chocolate, and wonderfully rounded tannins.

Opening with bright fresh red berries, red clay earth and forest floor. The palate is focused and concentrated with good depth. It is medium plus in body with moderate acidity and rounded tannins. The flavors are layered with kirsch, mixed cherries, clove, toast, vanilla and baking spice with smoke.

Medium-strength aromas of plum, red fruit, bramble, and toasted barrel. The palate is red-fruited-ripe cherry, cranberry, red plum, and raspberry. A Finger Lakes Lemberger that smells of plush smoke, dense black cherry, chocolate, candied red fruits, and cola. The palate is a juicy medium weight with nice concentration, medium tannins, and flavors of smoke, black raspberry, black cherry, and black currant.

This fabulous Cabernet Franc exhibits everything we love about the variety: beautiful dark fruits, savory earth elements and fine, supple tannins. There's a light smokiness intertwined with mineral/iron notes amid plenty of plum, black cherry, blackberry fruit and juicy acidity to lift everything. The finish is persistent and complex.

A very traditional Burgundy with an open body and loads of fruit to boot. The palette follows the nose with red and black cherries, tinges of earth, finishing with round tannins and the complexity that comes with age.

Aromas of warm earth, black currant, and dark cherries invite you in to this Rhone classic. Fuller-bodied with refreshing acidity to balance on the palate. More ripe dark fruit notes include cooked berries and some savory warm earth flavors with touches of dark chocolate and smoke.

This is an old-school style of Rioja, offering savory blackberry and other dark fruits, chocolate, smoke and violets on the nose. Soft tannins, fine acidity, and medium-plus body support blueberries and black currants. The wine was made using carbonic maceration, so there’s the tiniest hint of effervescence in the mouth.

Big, bold, black fruit and cured meat make you think this wine is brooding. When tasted you realize it's elegance and overall well made style. It is medium plus in body with light smoke, light earth and dark juicy blackberry.

This is a savory wine with structure and black fruit. There are tar-like earth aromas and floral notes with classic red cherry, raspberry and plum. The palate is not tart but has good cool-climate acidity; it is medium weight with medium-plus tannins. There is some minerality on the palate and is a classic example of cool climate yet ripe Vespolina.

Aromas include some smoke, black cap raspberries, and black plum supported by touches of violets and black pepper. The medium-bodied palate boasts plum and blueberry flavors supported by herbs and pepper as well as soft, dusty tannins and old world charm.

Aromas of cherry, crushed raspberries, minerals and flowers, show good typicity for Pinot. The dry palate is elegant, with more cherry fruit, a bit of toast, tea leaves, smoke and meatiness. Smooth and medium-bodied, the wine has moderate acidity that complements rather than obscures the abundant cherry and black currant fruit.

This wine is composed of equal parts sweet, ripe berries and stony minerality. There is a light earthiness, integrated tannins, refreshing acidity and very good density. It's perfectly balanced! Fruit of blueberries, blackberries, plums and black raspberries mix with some forest bramble. This is indicative of the Northern Rhone (winery in Cornas), but it's composed of Gamay.

This is quite aromatic, with a nose that shows some florality, plum, blueberry, and earth. The palate’s fresh acidity and moderate tannins support blackberry, blueberry, violets, and earth. This is a fresh, juicy wine inviting food.

Beautiful nose with such ripe and fruity notes of dark berries, sweeter blueberry compote and cocoa. The bit of Zinfandel adds to the flavors with smoke on the finish, black pepper and some cigar. This wine is smooth with soft tannins and balanced acidity.

Fruit for this wine come from young vines and you can tell it is ripe red cherry, spiced plum, truffle mushroom, and slightly earthy. The palate delivers medium plus acidity making this wine refreshing to drink, with black pepper, black cherry, black tea like tannins and satisfying with it's medium structure.

Exceedingly drinkable and a great value with elements of dried Bing cherry, dark cherry, and raspberry. The fruit is ripe and juicy with a touch of bramble. The texture of this wine is elegant, pretty, and supple on a medium bodied frame.

This is classic Langhe Nebbiolo with notes of dried rose, red cherry and raspberry, forest floor. The structure is typical for the grape -- young, slightly grippy tannins and crisp acidity will soften and integrate with time in this medium-bodied red. Medium aromatics offering fresh and dried herbs, cigar box, dates and dried cherries. The palate is medium bodied with very rounded but quite there tannins. Fruits are purple to black --cherries, plums, and black currant skin with light toast, earth and tobacco.

A complex Garnacha with aromas of plum, black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate truffle and cracked black pepper. This wine has macerated plums, watermelon, and a hint of smoke on the nose. The palate is medium plus with dark fruit flavors--dark cherries, blackberries, and red currants. A touch of smoke is integrated on the palate along with herbal and earth notes. This wine is soft with round, velvety tannins.

This appassimento wine uses dried grapes to concentrate the flavors. It is soft and supple in texture with velvety tannins on a medium frame. Stewed black and red fruits are accompanied by light tobacco and spice and a touch of smoke. Notes of blackberry, black cherries, and dates follow through to spices and dried herbs on the finish.

Aromas of smoke and spice, black olive and black cherry. The palate has a lovely texture deriving from fine tannins. Grapes, blackberries, and light spice as well as a hint of tapenade, make up the flavors.

This has been aged in newer oak, dill and coconut aromas mingle with stewed mixed fruit. This smells classic; old world spice, dried rose petals, touch of earth. The palate delivers olive tapenade, black pepper, tobacco and mixed red and black berries. The structure is medium plus in body, with just right tannin structure that could age longer, but is drinking well right now.

Aromas of cooked black berries, black olives, rosemary, yeast and rye bread jump out of the glass. This wine is medium-plus in body with ripe, but not heavy, fruits of black currants and black cherries mixed with rosemary and thyme. It is juicy and fresh with a light oak influence.

This aromatic wine gives cherry and strawberry, fruit leather, spiced and cooked cherries with pomegranate juice, blood orange and some incense notes. The palate has a bit of mulling spices and a touch of dehydrated fruit with good balance, easy texture and a velvety smoky finish.

From the producer: Blackberry, bacon, graphite, blueberry, rose. With the 2021 vintage, I have reverted to the intrinsic character of my first Côtes du Rhône from 1997 to 2000. This intense, energetic Syrah with its crimson hue is fresh with ‘espressivo cantabile’ aromas of red berry fruits and a rounded palate.

This Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara has a floral nose, with loads of raspberries and a touch of alcohol. The body is medium to medium plus, nicely ripe with a lot of density and depth. Rich with flavors of black cherries, blackberries, and light smoke; finishing with medium acidity and lingering fruit.

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). Slightly floral aromas mix with dark cherry, chocolate cake, oak, and cedar on the nose. The extra time in the barrel has softened this lovely Chianti Classico. The palette is pleasingly dense with Old World flavors, nicely ripe and fruity with soft but present tannins and juicy acidity. 

This wine gives fruit forward flavors of ripe blueberry and cherry as well as elegant oak notes.

This wine is from phylloxera-free vineyards with unirrigated grapes, giving it a pronounced personality. Fresh red and cooked cherries, spiced plums, and light balsamic notes characterize the aromas. The palate is medium to medium plus in body with macerated cherries and raspberries, plum molasses, and some vanilla and cinnamon. This wine has a level of minerality that reflecting its volcanic soil but is balanced with round tannins and a long finish.

This wine is fragrant as soon as the cork leaves the bottle! The aromas are beautifully integrated, with plum, bramble, small dark fruits, and dried herbs including oregano and sage. Tannins have softened with some age and are doing just what they should be, allowing the flavor elements to show off. Dark berries, plums, and herbal elements dance. This is quite aromatic, offering sweet wood, dark fruit--blackberry, blueberry, spiced cherry, plum--and cedar, all nicely integrated, with each sniff providing something more and different. The palate is equally integrated and complex. The fine tannins and moderate acidity are lovely, supporting and melding with the fruit. The fruit itself is dark berries, patient and thorough, subtle and a real presence. This is a wine one wants always on the wine rack to be enjoyed again and again. Aromas of red and black currants, smoke and black pepper are classic for this variety.  This is medium in weight with blackberries, plums, espresso and lingering wood smoke. The fine tannins, integrated acidity and forward fruit make this an accessible wine.

This bold red features rich, smoky black fruits such as currants and blackberries along with graphite, dark chocolate, toast, black pepper and singed herbs. It is full-bodied with velvety tannins and integrated acidity.

Soft and delicate aromas of earth and clay mixed with cherry, raspberry and dried herbs. On the palate the wine is dry and a touch savory with citrus, raspberry, and mineral notes. Concentrated with balancing acidity and a persistent finish.

Clean, invigorating notes of silex on the nose showcase the limestone soils of the Rouanne vineyard. The aromas and flavors develop as the wines opens to reveal wild strawberry and fresh thyme – a complex and flavorful sparkling rosé.

Such balance means that your bottle will quickly disappear!

Sparkling and semi sweet cider with aromas of bosc pear, peach cherry blossom and nectarine. This is a burst of juicy and round ripe fruit with some minerality on the back end. 

A champagne method style cider with  a moderate bouquet of blueberry and blackcurrant and blackcap notes, yellow soft baked apple and some lime zest. The palate is semi-dry and crisp with soft tannin structure there is some ripe peach flavor and cherry pit. There is a distinctive crab apple grip to the finish and is tart and approachable. 

Crisp, soft, off dry, and rich, this cider is cofermented with Riesling skins. This blend is has the lovely perfume of peach, honeycomb, and loads of sweet basil. The palate follows with ginger, apricot, sweet basil, and stone fruit. This is a great intro wine for people aren't (yet) fans of cider, it's fruity and complex, wonderfully complemented by the Riesling skins.

What an aromatic cider with golden apple, pear, and plum. The palate is soft and round with great texture and flavors that echo the aromas. This cider is delicious!
