Tasting Notes

This dry red blend is Bordeaux-like, but quite fruity with flavors of plum, red cherry, black raspberry and blackbery. It is medium weight with crisp acidity, a pleasant tartness and moderate tannins. You'll also find light smokiness, some black pepper and lingering blueberry notes. Overall, this wine is nicely harmonized and a great food partner.

Maximilien is an old Roman name used throughout the centuries got saints, emperors, revolutionaries and philosophers...complex and controversial but never boring. It is an apt name for this blend of noble and historic varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Ravines Wine Cellars is owned and run by Morten Hallgren and his wife, Lisa.  They have had a tasting room on the east side of Keuka Lake since 2000, the inception of their project.  In 2012, they purchased a winery and 40 acres of vineyards on the north west side of Seneca Lake.

Morten, originally from Denmark, comes from a wine family.  He grew up in Provence at Domaine de Castel Roubine.  He attended enology and viticulture school in Montpellier, France and upon moving to the Finger Lakes, worked at Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars before starting his own project.
