This wine gives a melange of black currants and macerated cherries in a way that is rich, but not heavy. It is medium plus to full bodied with concentrated darker fruit, figs and dried currants balanced by nice structure that keeps it lifted and fresh. This is easy to like, especially for those looking for power, fruit and structure all in one place!
The grapes come from estate vineyards in Valdefinjas and Toro which were planted between 1955-2000. Practicing organic, dry-farmed viticulture along with selective biodynamic practices are used. The vines are planted at 2,600 feet elevation which moderates the continental climate that is characterized by drastic diurnal shifts (very hot, dry summers and cold winters). Grapes are hand harvested and rigorously sorted by hand. Wine is aged 14 months in French barrique (30% new and 70% second use), then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
