Tasting Notes

Aromas of cherry, crushed raspberries, minerals and flowers, show good typicity for Pinot. The dry palate is elegant, with more cherry fruit, a bit of toast, tea leaves, smoke and meatiness. Smooth and medium-bodied, the wine has moderate acidity that complements rather than obscures the abundant cherry and black currant fruit. Roasted turkey or duck are ideal, as are salmon, mushrooms and herby gravy.

WINE INFORMATION

Gaierhof was established In 1975 by Luigi Togn, son of Germano Togn from Lechtaler Winery. he began his first venture, Today Luigi continues to operate his the winery assisted by his two daughters and his son-in-law.

The commune of Rovere' Della Luna in Trentino is nestled in the mountainous area about 20km north of Trento. The grapes for this wine were grown at an altitude of 750 feet, in mineral-rich soil with a mix of clay and gravel.

Grapes were hand-harvested in September and fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 77°F; it saw skin maceration for ten days.  Afterward the finished wine is aged for 12 months in small used oak barrels. After bottling the wine is aged for an additional 3 months before it is released to the market.

FOOD PAIRING

Try this lighter bodied red with classic Pinot pairings, like duck or salmon. It would also pair quite well with a pesto pasta, especially with fresh cherry tomatoes. Its fresh acidity would provide a nice counterpoint to the earthy flavors of lentils or mushrooms.
