Grapes for this wine come from vines planted in an alluvial, old river bed, with sandy gravel, limo and limestone. Destemmed grapes go into stainless steel vats, and are fermented in temperature controlled tanks with commercial yeast with very little extraction. The wine is aged for eleven months in 40% old French barrels and 60% in stainless steel vats.

Aromas of dark fruits, light earth and nutmeg introduce this wine. It is medium plus in body with blackberry, black raspberry, baking spice, dark earth and tobacco. Although it offers density, the tannins and acid are well integrated, giving a soft and silky texture. It’s the perfect party quaffer or pair with steak, beef stew, or roasted lamb shanks, liberally involving charring, grilling or smoking. You can also enjoy this South American red with stuffed peppers, mushrooms, beans and Mexican dishes.

Seductive notes of earth, turned leaves, and dark wild blackberries greet you on the nose of this Cru Beaujolais. This wine smells of blackberry, spice, coconut and leather. The palate gives chocolate covered cherries, black pepper, plum, earth and spice. The tannins in this wine are quite integrated and ready to drink now.

Between medium and full-bodied, this offering from Southeastern Spain is chock full of mulberries, cooked plums and raspberries with a sprinkling of cocoa. Baking spices and a hint of underbrush linger through the finish.

From the producer Barry Family Cellars' 2023 Cab Franc is a wine you can put next to any good Chinon or Anjou Rouge. It's deeply spicy, savory and especially dark-fruited...giving the wine a more serious profile than many FLX Cab Francs.

Aromas of cherry skin and cooked cherries, iron and a hint of smoke/tobacco introduce this Croatian wine. It is just over medium weight with dark cherry, plum, and black currant fruit structured by slightly grippy tannins and juicy acidity. There are slightly smoky and dried herb notes chiming in on the palate, finishing with wild red berries and baking spice.

An aromatic wine with lots of complexity, floral with pressed roses, spiced plum, licorice and blackberry. The palate shows come baking spice notes such as clove, licorice, and black pepper. More toast and macerated red cherries to finish. It is medium plus and drinking well now.  This is a classic, example of Chateauneuf. 

From the Producer This year’s rendition is 76% Zinfandel, 11% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Grenache and 3% Cinsault, with the remainder being assorted mixed varieties such as Mourvèdre, Negrette and more. Though a blend of over a dozen ranches, the majority comes from Teldeschi, Evanghelho, Katushas, Nervo, Sodini, Beeson, Bedrock, Old Hill, and Papera. We are extremely pleased with the resulting wine—one that shows off freshness, wonderful fruit tones, spice, and pepper laden perfume built around a core of flat-out delicious fruit character. This one should be a great crowd-pleaser.

Aromas of mulling spices and Moroccan souk spices combine with dark berries, tar and smoke to entice you to this Pinot Noir. It is between medium and full bodied with considerable concentration, yet it is not heavy. Macerated red and black cherries join pressed rose, mulling spices, bittersweet cacao nibs and a note of tar. The tannins are velvety and acid is integrated. With air, spiced black currants and smoke evolve on the long finish.

Brambly fruit like cassis, blackberry, and black cherry scents with white pepper. This wine is lithe with toothy tannins and velvet texture. The flavors have nice concentration with good acidic lift. The finish is very dry and a little hot with iron and minerality on the end.

This delicious red opens with deep aromas of smoke, tobacco, raspberry and blackberry with chocolate and coffee. Plush flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and fruit leather lend a touch of cola sweetness that is a nice counterpoint to the soft, fine tannins.

This Spanish blend of Garnacha and Syrah opens with dark, brooding, smokey cherry aromatics. The body is rich with juicy black cherry, chocolate, candied cherries, and touches of smoke. Finishing with soft tannins which complement the smoke and chocolate quite nicely.

"92 POINTS - The 2014 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35-year-old vines and the rest Monastrell from ancient vines fermented in the same way as Clio, starting in open-top, 4,500-liter stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and finishing in brand-new French and American oak barrels, where it also goes through malolactic. Aging in those new barrels lasted for almost two years. This is always quite ripe, and the Cabernet never shows any pyrazines or herbal aromas; there are plums, blackberries and a balsamic touch. This is full-bodied, powerful, concentrated and generously oaked. Bodegas El Nido was founded in 2002 and is part of the Gil Family Estate. The vineyards are comprised of 64 acres of old vine Monastrell, and 45 acres of 2- year old Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in barrels for about two years. This wine is big, complex and generous.

Aromas of stewed and fresh blackberries, red and purple flowers, vanilla, black pepper and minerality greet you on the nose. This is medium to fuller bodied with fresh blackberry, black cap raspberry, bittersweet chocolate, tobacco and graphite. Lifting acidity and integrated acidity make this a wonderful food wine.

This smells dark fruited and deep with integrated notes of smoke and savory forest/herbs. It is medium weight with an amalgam of clove and black pepper mixing with dark cherries and structuring acidity that keeps the wine lifted and fresh. Enjoy with red meat, Mediterranean dishes or just on its own by the campfire!

Complex aromas of dark cherry, plum, forest floor, cured meat, chalk and flowers. The palate is refreshing with blueberry, acai berries, red cherry, plum and cigar box flavors. Its tannins are soft and integrated with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg on the refreshing finish.

Aromas are of red cherry, black cherry, plum, prune, rosemary and cinnamon. The nose gives aromas of red and black cherry, baked raspberry pie, cranberry, meat, garrigue and smoke. It smells Italian! The palate is medium weight with strawberries, berry seeds, violets, mineral and camp fire. It has a softer structure than you might expect from Nebbiolo, with integrated acidity and tannins. A long, balsamic finish completes the package.

Aromas include blackberry, blueberry, and touches of pepper.  The palate offers nice intensity with mulberry, cassis and blackberry flavors supported by sleek, tea-like tannins, black pepper and a touch of licorice.

The nose offers dried strawberries and cooked cherries with dried flowers and herbs. The medium-bodied palate is similar to the nose, with dried cranberries, cherries, and dried flowers. The texture is silky with very fine tannins; acidity is lifted. The wine is ripe but not overripe; it’s lightly savoury like an Italian wine but with New World fruit.

Les Hérétiques is a rustic wine, speaking strongly of its terroir. The nose offers spice, cedar, and black cherry fruit, and touches of iron/earth. The tannins are quite present but well-integrated with more black cherries, spice and a lingering meaty quality.

With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.

From Decanter Concentrated autumnal fruit offers a hawthorny bramble of blackberry and bilberry. Big-framed, muscular tannins are joined by plenty of acidity - it's very clearly built to last and confident in its ability to reward those with patience. Matured in 50% new oak. Notes of earth and leather on the nose with dark berries and oak. The medium-bodied palate has juicy acidity with blackberries, smoke, earth, forest floor, black pepper, and a pleasant, woody finish.

From the producer: Lynch-Bages 2015 has a brilliant, deep colour with purple hues. Its nose clearly expresses aromas of cassis and dark fruit, mixed with the empyreumatic notes that come with ageing. It has a straightforward attack and a voluminous yet supple mid-palate. The wine has a marked but silky tannic structure, and a persistent finish illustrative of a particularly ripe vintage.

"Jean-Michel Laporte (previously at La Conseillante) arrived as technical director in 2018, just as this wine was being bottled, and it's not a bad vintage to usher him in to the world of Château Talbot. I drank this at friend's house a few months ago, and it had been open 24 hours by the time we were pouring it out, which just might be the ideal time, as the tannins were soft and open, and everything felt plush and welcoming. It has the balance of the appellation, the precision that Talbot has increasingly showcased over the past few years, and a sappy feel to the tannins. 50% new oak. This medium bodied Bordeaux has lovely minerality combined with plum fruit and black raspberry notes. The texture is finely tannined with fresh acidity lifting the flavors. There's good purity here, unadulterated by wood notes. This makes a great food partner for medium weight foods -- a red that can be enjoyed with white meats such as chicken and pork.

Aromas of cooked berries, cassis, dates, and wood spice blossom on the nose. The palate is concentrated and dense with cassis and toasty flavors. This wine is complex and has good texture and balance.

This cote du rhone presents aromas of smoke, dark fruit, and spice. Medium plus in body, with dark fruit, black currants, blackberries, dark chocolate, and wonderfully rounded tannins.

This co-fermented Chateauneuf is complex and appealing with scents reminiscent of potpourri, spiced plum, cassis and pressed flowers. There is a seduction about the aromas, like fine chocolate and wild animal; think truffle. It offers an opulent palate that is lovely, with blueberry, black currant, cooked plums, spice box, black tea, violets and forest floor. There are also hints of minerality and light toast joining with the ripe fruit. This full-bodied, flavorful red still offers "relief" and a sense of freshness which creates balance in the wine. It is texturally attractive and structurally balanced with medium acidity, well managed tannins and a long finish. 

On the nose, this wine gives aromas of dark fruits and toasty oak. It is medium plus in body, ripe and concentrated, yet stays refined and fresh. Fruit of macerated black currants and spiced berries are joined by flavors of mocha, chocolate, toast, mulling spices, cinnamon and black pepper. It has round tannins and integrated acidity.

Medium-strength aromas of plum, red fruit, bramble, and toasted barrel. The palate is red-fruited-ripe cherry, cranberry, red plum, and raspberry. Medium acidity and medium-plus tannins provide structure to this fresh, tart, and lively wine. The finish offers tart fruit and smoke and barrel notes. A solid wine despite the difficult vintage.

MC² is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon and is our fan-favorite red blend meant for everyday consumption. Each variety and vineyard are picked, fermented, and aged separately and combined after 10 months of ageing in barrel before bottling. In 2023, this blend was 63% sourced from east Seneca Lake and 37% sourced from west Cayuga Lake, with 51% of the blend being from our estate vineyards. With the varying topographies, soils, vineyard age, and varieties planted, the blend truly encapsulates the season from mid-September through the end of October.

Vibrant aromas include cassis, menthol/eucalyptus, sundried tomato, and baking spice. Concentrated flavors echo the aromas with more rich black fruit and menthol supported by supple, integrated tannins; warm spices linger on the longer finish.

Our notes: Aromas are of plum, black cherry, earth and truffle. This is medium weight with black cherry, raspberry and plum fruit that's ripe, not tart. It is fresh with mostly pure fruit and a touch of cooked as well. There are hints of orange, cinnamon and chalk. Tannins are nicely rounded.

Exquisite dark fruit aromas gracefully emanate from the glass, carrying hints of baking spice and potpourri notes. The palate gives luscious blackberry, vibrant black raspberry, and succulent boysenberry flavors heightened by nuances of vanilla and baker's chocolate. The finish is supple and beautifully rounded. Perfect for beef dishes like steak au poivre, braised brisket with onions, Guinness beef stew or shepherd’s pie. Vegetarians can opt for pasta with tomato sauce, stewed vegetables, vegetarian chili or roasted beets.

This fabulous Cabernet Franc exhibits everything we love about the variety: beautiful dark fruits, savory earth elements and fine, supple tannins. There's a light smokiness intertwined with mineral/iron notes amid plenty of plum, black cherry, blackberry fruit and juicy acidity to lift everything. The finish is persistent and complex.

This red blend is well structured with smooth, rich tannins and offers raspberry aromas along with hints of cocoa and cherry.

This is an old-school style of Rioja, offering savory blackberry and other dark fruits, chocolate, smoke and violets on the nose. Soft tannins, fine acidity, and medium-plus body support blueberries and black currants. The wine was made using carbonic maceration, so there’s the tiniest hint of effervescence in the mouth.

An experimental wine made by fermenting and aging organic Aglianico in untreated clay amphora, Titolo by Amphora channels the grape’s natural power into a soft and supremely nuanced wine. As the amphora become seasoned year after year, the wine takes on a fuller body after its 18-month aging regimen.

"The 2020 Coyam is a blend of 38% Syrah, 37% Carménère, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carignan, 4% Garnacha, 4% Mourvèdre, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Tempranillo from the Los Robles vineyard in Colchagua. It was aged for 18 months, 75% in barrels and the rest in and eggs. A rich purple in the glass. The complex nose features nuanced aromas ranging from blackberry to blueberry and currant with hints of cedar and spice. In the mouth, it’s juicy with a grippy texture and delicate, concentrated but relaxed tannins before the lengthy finish. It seems that the healthy biodynamic vineyard was able to withstand the warmth of 2020. An extremely well-made wine that handled the conditions with aplomb."

Aromas are big, smoky, and spicy with blackberry, dark chocolate, and a hint of licorice. The palate has a nice lift and acidity, with flavors that match the aromas, including the pepper and blackberry. Medium plus in body with a persistent finish. The wine spends a year in American and French oak, with a further four months in bottle.

Clean aromas of blackberry and cassis are joined by Shiraz spice on the nose. Flavors are fruity and somewhat soft on the entry. This is more red fruited than you might expect, with leather, spice and light toast combining with perfectly ripe fruit.

The nose and palate of this medium- to fuller-bodied wine are similar: Brandied fruit (blackberries, black cap raspberries, cherries), rose petal, grilled nuts, garrigue, and pepper. Medium in both acid and tannin, it is supple, fresh, and easy to drink.

This opens immediately with stunningly lovely aromas of raspberry compote, warm earth, Moroccan spices, campfire smoke, and sweet dark fruits. The body has lovely texture and density, with purple flowers, plum, raspberry, pressed rose, and finishing with a silky acidity. A stellar value for beautiful wine with a lot to offer.

This chillable red from Greece is brimming with geranium, cherry candy, flint, black pepper, and red fruited aromas. The body is clean with watermelon juice and rind, black pepper, red cherry, and tea tannins. Medium bodied with good complexity, it has interesting minerality and a savory herbal finish.

This medium-plus bodied red from Uruguay offers brooding dark fruit, integrated smoke, espresso, graphite and light earth flavors. The texture is velvety with fresh acidity. This wine is elegant, unique and well made.

"Monastrell is the Spanish name for Mourvedre and is the key variety grow in Jumilla which is the focus of all the wines made by Genio Español. Genio Roble is aged for 8 months in new French and American oak barrels. Deep red color with aromas of ripe fruits, earth and a touch of vanilla. On the palate you feel very pleasant tannins surrounded by dark fruits and spice."

This wine is composed of equal parts sweet, ripe berries and stony minerality. There is a light earthiness, integrated tannins, refreshing acidity and very good density. It's perfectly balanced! Fruit of blueberries, blackberries, plums and black raspberries mix with some forest bramble. This is indicative of the Northern Rhone (winery in Cornas), but it's composed of Gamay.

From the producer: Dark ruby-purple, this wine has deep, alluring aromas of blackcurrant and black plum that are layered with expressive notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and perfume of lavender. Supple, concentrated, and seamless, the palate displays vibrant fruit with undertones of tilled earth and sea salt. Firm, integrated tannins provide a structured backbone to the opulence of the wine, finishing with a lasting, powerful impression.

This rich, plush red offers rich blackberry and currant aromas with touches of leather and tobacco.  Aromas and flavors weave together seamlessly with sweet black currant,  blackcap raspberry and blackberry seeds joining touches of espresso, graphite and smoke to linger on the long, ripe finish. This wine is at once brooding and accessible!

On the nose, this Moroccan blend of Syrah Tempranillo has dense blackberry, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch and a touch of smoke. The palate is more lifted and structured than the nose suggests, with blackberry, smoke, dried flower pedal, and rose.

From the producer: The deep ruby color leads to aromas of roasted black cherry and pomegranate laced with juniper. Toasted peppercorn, a signature of Navarra Garnacha, comes through after a minutes in the glass, followed by dried thyme and cherry cola. The palate is fresh, filled with red fruit, but shows it’s serious side with an earthy mid-palate and noticeable grip on the finish. Luzador Los Andreses is fun and serious at the same time – ideally paired with fully flavored foods from the grill.

This plush and saturated wine gives a range of purple fruits such as plums, black cap raspberries, cherries and mulberries. The fruit is joined with some baking spice, cinnamon, bramble and black tea. Structuring acidity provides framework for this medium-plus bodied wine. It ends with a cherry note on the finish.

Attractive red jam fruits are still dry in this Zinfandel-based wine which has nice purity and finesse, as well as velvety tannins. It has medium acidity or even more, giving it good balance. There's plenty of flavor here, including a little brambly note.

This is classic Langhe Nebbiolo with notes of dried rose, red cherry and raspberry, forest floor. The structure is typical for the grape -- young, slightly grippy tannins and crisp acidity will soften and integrate with time in this medium-bodied red. Ripe and tart berry notes combine to lift the wine, making it a good food partner.

Chocolate, figs, leather, espresso, dried fruit and spices. This is complex, still young and delivers an approachable expression of Amarone that is medium plus in tannins and medium in acidity.

This is a very aromatic wine, with fresh dark cherries and plums and a touch of pepper and bark. In the mouth, this is juicy, fruity (raspberries, figs, plums), and well structured by round tannins. It is complex, with a touch of savory dried herbs and woodsy notes, hints of coffee and chocolate, and a great mouthfeel. It’s definitely food-oriented, though it is also pleasurable alone.

From the producer: A bowl of summer fruits including sweet blackberries, raspberries, black olives and pomegranates which are highlighted by black pepper, violets and fresh green olive scents that develop and evolve with air. Vivacious and bright in the mouth with real density of flavor and concentration from the long cool growing season.

This is a great-value, Italian version of Zinfandel. The nose is lifted with floral aromas balancing the dark berries. On the palate, the fruit remains dark and rich with smoke, toast and cherry cola notes. Well balanced and rounded in texture, this is a fun party or camp fire wine!

Both aromas and flavors are smoky. The nose offers stewed red fruit (raspberry), black fruit (black raspberry and cherry), and cured meat. This appassimento wine uses dried grapes to concentrate the flavors. It is soft and supple in texture with velvety tannins on a medium frame. Dark berries, some cooked and some fresh, join with dried herbs on the nose. This wine is medium plus-bodied with black fruits, toast, mineral, leather, violets, olives and a dab of smoke. It is overall a clean and modern style with medium tannins and acidity.

This has been aged in newer oak, dill and coconut aromas mingle with stewed mixed fruit. This smells classic; old world spice, dried rose petals, touch of earth. The palate delivers olive tapenade, black pepper, tobacco and mixed red and black berries. The structure is medium plus in body, with just right tannin structure that could age longer, but is drinking well right now.

This ripe and fruit forward wine is juicy with black pepper, dark plums, chocolate-covered cherries and rose peppercorns. This palate is rich and round with cherry pie notes and some good oak influence, especially offering baking spices and mocha.

Aromas of cooked black berries, black olives, rosemary, yeast and rye bread jump out of the glass. This wine is medium-plus in body with ripe, but not heavy, fruits of black currants and black cherries mixed with rosemary and thyme. It is juicy and fresh with a light oak influence.

This aromatic wine gives cherry and strawberry, fruit leather, spiced and cooked cherries with pomegranate juice, blood orange and some incense notes. The palate has a bit of mulling spices and a touch of dehydrated fruit with good balance, easy texture and a velvety smoky finish.

This Napa Cabernet Sauvignon smells of black tea, black currants, and macerated dark fruits such as black cherries and plums. The palate is elegant and medium in body, presenting more black tea, black cherries, some smoke, spice, integrated acid, and fine tannins.

Medium aromatics include black pepper, cassis, blackberry and a touch of smokiness. Lovely velvety structure on the palate leads to cooked berry notes, cola and spice with lingering smoke notes.

This Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara has a floral nose, with loads of raspberries and a touch of alcohol. The body is medium to medium plus, nicely ripe with a lot of density and depth. Rich with flavors of black cherries, blackberries, and light smoke; finishing with medium acidity and lingering fruit.

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The palate is medium to medium plus in body with macerated cherries and raspberries, plum molasses, and some vanilla and cinnamon. This wine has a level of minerality that reflecting its volcanic soil but is balanced with round tannins and a long finish.

This wine is fragrant as soon as the cork leaves the bottle! The aromas are beautifully integrated, with plum, bramble, small dark fruits, and dried herbs including oregano and sage. Tannins have softened with some age and are doing just what they should be, allowing the flavor elements to show off. Dark berries, plums, and herbal elements dance. Medium bodied with a longer finish.

This red has inviting aromas of warm cherry compote and spices. It is medium weight with smooth tannins and balanced acidity. The fruit is of mixed cherries, wild raspberries and plums with touches of savory underbrush and baking spice. Enjoy with a range of foods--this might be the perfect pizza wine!

On the nose and the palate the fruit is nicely ripe with black plum, blueberry, mixed cherry and blackberry. The palate has good intensity with plenty of lift, made more complex with notes of dried violets and a spicy finish. This medium-plus-bodied wine is complex and balanced; though it is fruit forward, it offers nice oak quality and blended spice.

This Austrian red is fresh with red and black cherry and raspberry fruit. It is lightly smoky, earthy and even a touch funky. The wine is just over medium weight with moderate acidity and soft tannins. You'll find it a delicious example of Blaufrankisch that's beautifully balanced.

Aromas of black cherry, earth and faint smoke lead to a medium weight Cabernet Franc with black berry and black cherry fruit that is fresh, pure and slightly candied, with a touch of minerality. This has moderate acidity and a very fine texture.

This bold red features rich, smoky black fruits such as currants and blackberries along with graphite, dark chocolate, toast, black pepper and singed herbs. It is full-bodied with velvety tannins and integrated acidity.
