WINE INFORMATION
Located between Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay vine growing all over the land benefits from the country’s location with the same latitude as the wine growing regions of Argentina, Chile, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and mild weather. Most Uruguayan wineries are situated inland or on the coast, and their production grows every year. Uruguay is well known for the production of Tannat but as time goes by, we are seeing wines made from different grapes arriving into the US.
When Alejandro Bulgheroni and his wife, Bettina, discovered Garzón in 1999, they saw in it their “little Uruguayan Tuscany” and began working on their dream. Today Bodega Garzón is the first LEED certified winery in South America.
After harvest the grapes are carefully sorted. Temperature controlled fermentation happens in cement tanks. After fermentation the wine is aged in French barrels for 6 to 12 months on the lees to increase complexity and texture.
