Tasting Notes

Our notes: Aromas are of plum, black cherry, earth and truffle. This is medium weight with black cherry, raspberry and plum fruit that's ripe, not tart. It is fresh with mostly pure fruit and a touch of cooked as well. There are hints of orange, cinnamon and chalk. Tannins are nicely rounded.

From the producer: The beautiful deep ruby-violet colors of the Pinot Noir wine give way to aromas of very ripe red fruits (cherry, blackberry and raspberry). The nose is intense and well integrated, with aromas of cooked red fruits and roasted coffee beans. There are also hints of graphite and cinnamon. Very round and smooth on the attack, with tight tannins on the palate. In the mouth come flavors of smoke and prune. This wine is ready to drink, but could also be kept for some years.

Located in the heart of the Sancerre region, Domaine Delaporte is a family business that has been passed from father to son since the 17th century. The Domaine is found in the beautiful village of Chavignol, which is renowned for the goat cheese Crottin de Chavignol. Since 2010, Vincent Delaporte’s grandson, Matthieu Delaporte, has been focused on further improving the Domaine’s wine. Precision, balance, and complexity are the maxims of the Domaine Delaporte cuve?es, with each delivering a strong sense of individual terroir, marked by considerable minerality, power, and freshness.

The Pinot Noir vines range in age from twenty to forty years. Seventy percent of these vines are planted in argilo-siliceous (clay and sandy-flint) soil. The remaining 30% of the vines are planted in limestone soil. These vines are cultivated in a sustainable manner, showing maximum respect for the ecosystem and the environment.

The grapes are 100% hand-picked and are sorted manually on a sorting table followed by daily pumping over, pigeage and constant sampling, in order to extract from the cap of grape skins and solid matter the maximum amount of fruit aromas, colors and tannins contained in the skin of the grapes. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 228-litre oak barrels for 50% of the harvest and in stainless-steel vats for the other half. The wine is bottled after six months of aging without filtration.
