"92 POINTS - The 2014 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35-year-old vines and the rest Monastrell from ancient vines fermented in the same way as Clio, starting in open-top, 4,500-liter stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and finishing in brand-new French and American oak barrels, where it also goes through malolactic. Aging in those new barrels lasted for almost two years. This is always quite ripe, and the Cabernet never shows any pyrazines or herbal aromas; there are plums, blackberries and a balsamic touch. Bodegas El Nido was founded in 2002 and is part of the Gil Family Estate. The vineyards are comprised of 64 acres of old vine Monastrell, and 45 acres of 2- year old Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in barrels for about two years. This wine is big, complex and generous.

This Tempranillo, Merlot, Garnacha blend is a serious wine, its black fruits (cherry and raspberry) bonding with graphite, iron, dark earth, and chocolate aromas. The palate is medium bodied; its concentration and complexity emerge with exposure to air. It finishes with a touch of forest floor and smoke framed by food-friendly tannins.

Dark cherry, cola, and spice aromas entice on the nose. The palate is warming with more dark fruits, chocolate-covered raisins and touches of campfire and pepper. Velvety tannins support the spicy finish of this fuller-bodied wine.

This deeply colored wine offers powerful aromas of mulberry, mocha, sweet wood, and damson plum. In the mouth, it is juicy with moderate plus acidity. The aromas are echoed in the flavors—plum, dark chocolate, smoke, mulberry, and sweet wood. Tannins are fine-grained and nearly invisible, but they provide just enough structure. It is medium plus in body and length.

Aromas include ripe blueberry, cherry, vanilla and dried flowers/herbs. It's more savory on the palate than the nose suggests. Complex flavors of plum, blueberry, dried herbs and a tomato leaf are supported by integrated acid, velvety tannins and a long finish.

This wine is from phylloxera-free vineyards with unirrigated grapes, giving it a pronounced personality. Fresh red and cooked cherries, spiced plums, and light balsamic notes characterize the aromas. The palate is medium to medium plus in body with macerated cherries and raspberries, plum molasses, and some vanilla and cinnamon. This wine has a level of minerality that reflecting its volcanic soil but is balanced with round tannins and a long finish.

Spicy/floral aromas of dried rose petal, cinnamon and dried cherries. Ripe red and black fruit on the palate that remains balanced by soft, integrated tannins. Toasty vanilla and caramel notes linger on the longer finish.

On the nose and the palate the fruit is nicely ripe with black plum, blueberry, mixed cherry and blackberry. The palate has good intensity with plenty of lift, made more complex with notes of dried violets and a spicy finish. This medium-plus-bodied wine is complex and balanced; though it is fruit forward, it offers nice oak quality and blended spice.

Aromas of red and black currants, smoke and black pepper are classic for this variety.  This is medium in weight with blackberries, plums, espresso and lingering wood smoke. The fine tannins, integrated acidity and forward fruit make this an accessible wine.

Medium aromatic with notes of red raspberry, black cherry, pepper and tobacco. The palate is medium-weight with red raspberry, tart black currants, rosemary and lightly savory notes. This is very quaffable and not as big as some of its Spanish counterparts; consider giving it a light chill.

A champagne method style cider with  a moderate bouquet of blueberry and blackcurrant and blackcap notes, yellow soft baked apple and some lime zest. The palate is semi-dry and crisp with soft tannin structure there is some ripe peach flavor and cherry pit. There is a distinctive crab apple grip to the finish and is tart and approachable.
