This wine smells unctuous before you even put it in your mouth. Scents of baked apple and peach, cardamon and honey greet you in the glass. It is dense and rich with honey apple, pineapple and peach flavors combining with cardamon, ginger, five-spice and a granitic mineral note. Although there is a touch of sweetness, this is equally refreshing. Full bodied, concentrated and a perfect example of the Brand vineyard.

This wine gives floral and savory aromatics. On the palate, there is peach and apricot, hazelnut, hay, and white flowers. Dense, round, full and juicy with a light bitterness, you will seek glass after glass!

From the Producer: "A classically bright Finger Lakes Riesling, with vibrant citrus and fresh green herbal notes on a light and refreshing frame, finishing with slate and lemon curd. While good to keep for another five to eight years, this wine can be enjoyed immediately with roasted poultry, poached fish with citrus and ginger, a vegetarian curry, or fine aged cheeses."

This is a wonderful and complex semi-dry Riesling. At first, it begins with notes of petrol mixed with white tea and tropical fruit such as guava. The palate gives generous apricot, pineapple and guava fruitiness mixed with minerality and florality. The wine can seem weighty at first sip, but the acid stays perky and with the right food, it dances on the palate.

This unoaked Chardonnay offers fresh flavors of pineapple and grilled peaches with nice acidity to keep the palate lifted. The texture is attractive with both freshness and a broad mouthfeel. It finishes with glazed citrus and sweet snap pea.

This Late Harvest Riesling is crafted in the traditional German Spätlese style, with natural sweetness balanced by lively acidity. The outcome is a wine with an elegant yet luscious nose, followed by a generous palate of crisp ripe stone fruit and floral notes, lingering into a long, naturally sweet finish. 4.3% residual sugar.

From the producer: Pale yellow colour. The nose shows the strong limestone influence: mineral, stone driven, citrus fruits and some white fruits (peach) after some aeration. The wine fermented in a large recent oak cask (foudre) and was on full lees until bottling. The palate is quite strict, bone dry, with a racy sapid acidity that gives a juicy texture on the finish. The wine has a nice concentration, but because it is bone dry with a ripe acidity, it feels elegant and delicate.

Made in an Old World style with moderate extraction, this wine displays a balance of complex aromatics and flavors including plenty of ripe black fruits and candied fruits along with hints of sandalwood and earth.

Medium aromatics include cherry and plums with touches of earth, pine and spice.  More mulling spice flavors on the palate with ripe fruit echoing the aromas. Full-bodied, well-integrated and savory with touches of smoke, dark chocolate, and balsam supporting.

From the producer: Ruby red in colour with good intensity and garnet hues; on the nose intense and complex with flowery notes of red roses, ripe red fruit, redcurrant, blackberry and slight spicy hints. Immediately on entry, the wine is soft and quite tannic, full flavoured, with a decisive presence in the mouth and a complete and satisfying retronasal sensation.

The nose offers spiced plum, a touch of licorice and olives, sweet wood and dried herbs. In the mouth, this wine is full bodied and flavorful. Deep red fruits, black currants, blackberry, and black cherry, as well as black olives merge with bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and tobacco notes. This has character and personality without being overbearing.

An aromatic wine with lots of complexity, floral with pressed roses, spiced plum, licorice and blackberry. The palate shows come baking spice notes such as clove, licorice, and black pepper. More toast and macerated red cherries to finish. It is medium plus and drinking well now.  This is a classic, example of Chateauneuf. 

Aromas of mulling spices and Moroccan souk spices combine with dark berries, tar and smoke to entice you to this Pinot Noir. It is between medium and full bodied with considerable concentration, yet it is not heavy. Macerated red and black cherries join pressed rose, mulling spices, bittersweet cacao nibs and a note of tar. The tannins are velvety and acid is integrated. With air, spiced black currants and smoke evolve on the long finish.

This delicious red opens with deep aromas of leather, cigar box and red fruit. Plush flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and pomegranate lend a touch of fruit sweetness that is a nice counterpoint to the soft, chewy tannins.

The grape Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Aromas of grilled plum, blackberry, black currant and a little bark can be found on the nose. This medium-weight wine has flavors of black plum, cherry, and a hint of purple fruit. It is nicely balanced with medium acidity and sleek tannins.

Aromas are complex, with smoke, raspberry compote, red currant candy, chocolate, and spice. The palate offers a variety of red berry fruit, lightly cooked so it releases juice. Black cherry and cassis are also present, along with toast, spice, and mineral notes. The wine is pure, with well integrated tannins and acidity, and deft on its feet for one so large. Full bodied with a long finish.

Aromas of stewed and fresh blackberries, red and purple flowers, vanilla, black pepper and minerality greet you on the nose. This is medium to fuller bodied with fresh blackberry, black cap raspberry, bittersweet chocolate, tobacco and graphite. Lifting acidity and integrated acidity make this a wonderful food wine.

This wine is ruby red with purple highlights. Fresh and fruity, it is a perfect sipper and refreshing even in warmer weather (try it with a slight chill!). The nose shows red berry, blue fruit, and spice, while the palate is medium bodied with food-friendly acidity.

Earthy aromas include bramble, mineral, garrigue, smoke, berry coolis and plum.  The palate is medium-plus in body with nice ripeness but not too heavy or overoaked. Flavors of red cherry and black currant, a touch of underbrush and black fruit supported by sleek slightly grippy tannins and juicy acidity lingering on the finish. This smells like an old underground cellar with still some tartness and violets. This wine would be an excellent gift or an alternative to a quality Cotes du Rhone.

A classically made dark fruited Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa power couple Andy Erickson and Annie Favia. The nose is incredibly complex with cassis, plum, cola nut, black cherry, black pepper, and espresso. In the mouth the wine is well balanced and combines the fruit further with dark chocolate integrated fine tannins. While delicious now, it will continue to evolve in the cellar and shine fully in 2 - 5 years!

The nose gives aromas of red and black cherry, baked raspberry pie, cranberry, meat, garrigue and smoke. It smells Italian! The palate is medium weight with strawberries, berry seeds, violets, mineral and camp fire. It has a softer structure than you might expect from Nebbiolo, with integrated acidity and tannins. A long, balsamic finish completes the package.

Deeply opaque, dark cherry red, with garnet highlights. Expressive aromas of black forest fruits and blueberry with delicious, jammy cherry coming through, and a characteristic, terroir-imparted mineral nuance. Velvety and elegant on the palate, revealing exquisitely fine, fruit tannins, good length, and refined aromas of aging in toasted oak.

"The greatest Cantenac Brown I have ever tasted, the 2010 is one for the ages. Dense purple, with an extraordinary nose of sweet forest floor, blackberry jam, pen ink and graphite, this wine soars from the glass, giving it an aromatic dimension and intensity I have never seen from this estate. The tannins are present, as they are in most Cantenac Browns, but the wine’s sweetness, broad, skyscraper-like mouthfeel, dense, purple color and spectacular length (close to a minute) make this a giant classic and a fabulous sleeper of the vintage that still remains under-priced, considering how great its potential may be. This is a wine for those with cold cellars and youthful DNA. It is going to need at least a decade of cellaring and should last for 20-40 years. Les Hérétiques is a rustic wine, speaking strongly of its terroir. The nose offers spice, cedar, and black cherry fruit, and touches of iron/earth. The tannins are quite present but well-integrated with more black cherries, spice and a lingering meaty quality.

This is an excellent value with it’s complex aromas of smoke, earth, forest floor, tobacco, dark cherry, raspberry, pipe tobacco and ripe and baked berry pie. The flavors are repeated on the palate and deliver some more toast and cigar box, with rusticity and black pepper. It is medium plus in body with medium acid.

From the producer: Lynch-Bages 2015 has a brilliant, deep colour with purple hues. Its nose clearly expresses aromas of cassis and dark fruit, mixed with the empyreumatic notes that come with ageing. It has a straightforward attack and a voluminous yet supple mid-palate. The wine has a marked but silky tannic structure, and a persistent finish illustrative of a particularly ripe vintage.

This is essentially the Chateau Maris Les Planels (Syrah-based wine) without any sulfites added. (it says "sans souffre" on the neck of the capsule). The name means "to know how to age." In actuality, it is a wine that one should probably drink within 3 years of vintage since it has no sulfite protection, but boy, is it drinking beautifully. Medium plus body, rich and ripe, velvety, meaty, with savory undertones. There's nothing overripe here, yet it's seamlessly saturated. If you're into "natural wine," here's a superior example. 

This is fruit forward and has broad appeal with ripe black berry, blackcap and dark plums with dark coffee and dark chocolate. This wine has moderate and approachable tannins structure and spends one year in oak barrels.

Aromas include ripe dark cherry, cinnamon, stewed tomatoes and wood spice. Silky tannins support this savory and robust wine; flavors echo aromas with touches of black fruits added. The finish is long with hints of stony minerality.

Abundant enticing aromas introduce this wine: raspberry and black cherry fruit mingle harmoniously with Moroccan spices, coffee, garrigue, savory black olives and wood spice. The palate is equally complex and intriguing with red plum and black currant balanced by notes of sandalwood and black pepper, culminating in a persistent fruit-filled, spicy finish.

This co-fermented Chateauneuf is complex and appealing with scents reminiscent of potpourri, spiced plum, cassis and forest floor. There is something sleek and slick about the aromas, like fine chocolate and wild animal; think truffle. An opulent palate that is lovely, with black tea, bergamot, wild fruit of the forest, raisin, olives and forest floor. This is texturally attractive and nicely balanced with medium acidity, well managed tannins and a long finish.

Aromas are high-toned with fresh herbs, berries, and evergreen.  The palate is medium-bodied, its cassis and black cherry supported by mineral notes, more herb and drying tannins. There's a refreshing succulence to this red with its snappy acid playing foil to the Mediterranean fruit.

Aromas are complex: deep red fruit joined by small black fruits; cedary with a touch of cigar box. The palate has good concentration, moderate acidity and fine tannins. This is a fairly powerful wine and yet fresh with flavors of black fruit layered with spice, chocolate and wet forest floor.

Aromas are meaty and deep, offering black cap raspberries, blackberry compote, and smoke. In the mouth, this wine is deep black and sleek, dark fruited and savory (black currant and espresso) as well as textured (suave tannins and fresh acidity). This wine presents minerally, ripe raspberry and plum fruit with integrated acid, giving a seamless, beautiful texture that finishes with some youthful tannins. A lightly savory note threads through the wine, adding complexity. From the Distributor: “A fabulous introduction into the wines of this terrific estate, it has a plump, medium to full-bodied, expansive mouthfeel as well as loads of darker fruits, notes of spice box, pepper, and leather, no hard edges, and a great finish. On the nose, this wine gives aromas of dark fruits and toasty oak. It is medium plus in body, ripe and concentrated, yet stays refined and fresh. Our notes: Aromas are of plum, black cherry, earth and truffle. This is medium weight with black cherry, raspberry and plum fruit that's ripe, not tart. It is fresh with mostly pure fruit and a touch of cooked as well. There are hints of orange, cinnamon and chalk. Tannins are nicely rounded. From the producer: The beautiful deep ruby-violet colors of the Pinot Noir wine give way to aromas of very ripe red fruits (cherry, blackberry and raspberry). The nose is intense and well integrated, with aromas of cooked red fruits and roasted coffee beans. There are also hints of graphite and cinnamon. Very round and smooth on the attack, with tight tannins on the palate. In the mouth come flavors of smoke and prune. This wine is ready to drink, but could also be kept for some years.

The aromas express themselves with elegance, releasing delicate floral and volatile notes, peony, mingling with greedy aromas of strawberry, black fruit and chocolate. This is a nice value with great texture and ripe balance with flavors of blackberry and black currants with a long finish. Vibrant, with a fresh core of cherry and cassis notes backed by anise, apple wood and garrigue hints through the finish. Nice underlying juiciness throughout. Aromas are minerally with red cherry and raspberry  Structured with medium tannins and acid, this wine is still youthful but complex.  Flavors suggest warm eath, iron, baking spice, and ripe red fruit. Pair with richer foods, decant, or cellar this delicious Tempranillo.

Aromas are earthy with blackberry and black cherry notes. Rich black fruits (currant, black cherry) are supported by refreshing acidity on the palate. Slightly herbaceous and earthy with hints of tree bark and olive round out this fuller-bodied food-friendly wine.

Rustic aromas of warm earth, barn, worn leather, and herbs complement ripe red fruits (cranberry, red currant and cooked strawberry) on the nose. More red fruit on the palate is supported by fresh acid and integrated tannins providing a pleasing mouthfeel. Touches of spice and earthy minerals round out the finish.

This is a savory wine with structure and black fruit. There are tar-like earth aromas and floral notes with classic red cherry, raspberry and plum. The palate is not tart but has good cool-climate acidity; it is medium weight with medium-plus tannins.

This is a go-to wine for Mediterranean food with aromas of black and green olives, red raspberry and blackcaps, garrigue and charcoal. The aromas and flavors are complex and support black pepper, licorice, roses and red plums. The palate is structured but medium bodied and has medium plus acidity with integrated tannins.

This concentrated, ripe and elegant pinot noir shows a host of red fruits, black cherry and cassis, rose petals, seductive truffle, red licorice and appealing earth notes. Medium weight with fine but thorough tannins and flavorful acidic lift, long finish with some minerality, tobacco and dried floral notes. This is a great value.

On the nose this wine has Moroccan spices, wet stone, smoke and black fruit like plum and blackberry. On the palate, there are rich blackcurrants and black cherries with dried herbs and garrigue along with notes of spice, kirsch, black licorice and bitter chocolate. This red is dense, with beautiful structure, velvety tannins and good length.

The ripeness continues with black cherry and black cap raspberry fruit. A gulpable, soft and plus red in a liter bottle!

Pale looking in the glass, this wine is ripe with integrated tannins and medium acidity. Flavors and aromas are similar with interesting layers of savory bark, sassafras, truffles, and light toast to blend with cranberry, red cherry, and slight milk chocolate. This has very dark fruit with vanilla and wood spice aromas. The palate is integrated and velvety with baking spice, toast, smoky red cherry and other dark fruits. This is very appealing and has brightness with depth and elegance. This vegan wine would make an excellent gift.

This is a very aromatic wine, with fresh dark cherries and plums and a touch of pepper and bark. In the mouth, this is juicy, fruity (raspberries, figs, plums), and well structured by round tannins. It is complex, with a touch of savory dried herbs and woodsy notes, hints of coffee and chocolate, and a great mouthfeel. It’s definitely food-oriented, though it is also pleasurable alone.

Aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, smoke, dried herbs and graphite. It is medium in body with smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is medium with black raspberry notes. This is a textbook Blaufrankisch that can be served chilled.

Aromas of black cherry and cracked black pepper interlace with notes of old barrel and earth. The palate delivers raspberry, cherry, red plum and lingonberry with black pepper and cinnamon. This is medium-weight, juicy, bright and balanced with medium tannins. Pure and typical of the varietal, the wine continues with raspberry and some earth on the finish.

Deep and brooding with black fruit, tobacco and dried herb notes on the nose. The palate continues with these--black currants and bittersweet chocolate stand out and are structured with juicy acidity and open-knit tannins. This wine is fleshy and silky, especially given some air. It's just right on every note, mixing savory with ripe. The more you think about it, the more you realize what a pleasure it is to drink this wine.

You’ll find smoky aromas with black currant and black cherry fruit as well as some barrel notes. Less smoky in the mouth, this gives pure black cherry fruit along with light toast and minerality. Its medium weight with smooth tannins and great balance, showing both ripeness and some lifting, tart black fruits.

Aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and light earth unfold from the glass. On the palate, fruit flavors of cherry, raspberry and red plum mingle with a light herbal note. The wine is medium-bodied, nicely ripe and slightly rounded, yet clean, pure and fresh. It’s particularly refreshing for summer sipping!

From the producer: Blackberry, bacon, graphite, blueberry, rose. With the 2021 vintage, I have reverted to the intrinsic character of my first Côtes du Rhône from 1997 to 2000. This intense, energetic Syrah with its crimson hue is fresh with ‘espressivo cantabile’ aromas of red berry fruits and a rounded palate.

This wine is complex with tertiary notes that layer with wood spice, touches of earth, dried mushrooms, plums and black cherries. The palate echoes the aromas with savory flavors that support its structure making it a lovely wine for just sipping or pairing with food. This wine has medium acidity on its medium frame and it plush without being rich. 

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). Rich, dark aromas of cooked cherries and forest underbrush on the nose. This fuller-bodied wine offers black currants and black cherry on the palate. The fruit is ripe to support it's richness and fine tannins with touches of minerality and dark chocolate on the finish.

Aromas include baking spice, leather and freshly turned earth.  On the palate, this fuller-bodied wine offers dense, dark fruit flavors supported by savory earthy/meaty notes and more cigar spice lingering on the complex finish.

Aromatics of macerated blackberries, cocoa, and a hint of licorice. This is very smoothly textured, ripe and spicy with dark berries, plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, integrated tannins and an appealing meatiness. It is fuller bodied and warming.

On the nose, one finds clove, black pepper, dark, concentrated berry pie fruits and subtle smokiness. This wine is full bodied and full flavored with hearty winter notes of baked berries, cherry pie, kirsch, mulling spices, toast and spiced fruit preserves. It is rich and concentrated, yet easy to drink due to its round texture and balanced acidity.

This red begins with dark fruits like damson plum mixed with a touch of spice, sandalwood, graphite, wet stone, smoke and earth. It is between medium and full bodied with ripe plum, black cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit that is rich and nicely integrated with rounded tannins. Savory earth and graphite flavors add complexity.

This is quite aromatic, offering sweet wood, dark fruit--blackberry, blueberry, spiced cherry, plum--and cedar, all nicely integrated, with each sniff providing something more and different. The palate is equally integrated and complex. The fine tannins and moderate acidity are lovely, supporting and melding with the fruit. The fruit itself is dark berries, patient and thorough, subtle and a real presence. This is a wine one wants always on the wine rack to be enjoyed again and again. Medium bodied with a longer finish.

Wine Spectator, 94 Points: A bright yet firmly structured Chianti Classico, with iron, leather, almond and floral accents surrounding a core of cherry fruit. Sleek and intense, with a lingering finish echoing cherry, red berry and mineral notes. Best from 2024 through 2040. 4,500 cases imported.

Aromas of black cherry, earth and faint smoke lead to a medium weight Cabernet Franc with black berry and black cherry fruit that is fresh, pure and slightly candied, with a touch of minerality. This has moderate acidity and a very fine texture.

90 Points Wine Spectator: Well-built and elegantly focused, with expressive raspberry, sweet anise and black tea flavors that take on richness toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2026.

In this bottling from Yves Leccia, the French import Grenache—called Elegante in Corsica—takes center stage, offering fragrant notes of lavender spiced with balmy Mediterranean brush. A splash of the indigenous Niellucciu completes the blend, adding some muscle to this savory, floral red whose sunny island flavors come into focus when slightly chilled.

Wild aromatics with Maine blueberries, dried fruit, plums, blackberry pie with integrated tannins and some baking spice.

The aromas and flavors of this wine are abundant and complex. Pleasurable black fruits and notes of baking spice and chocolate accompany light smoke. Bold with round, ripe, suave tannins and juicy acidity, this is medium bodied but stays lip smacking with its juiciness. Secondary flavors of licorice, black cherry, chocolate, lead, blueberry and a touch of black pepper. The Zorzal Malbec is well-integrated and extremely enjoyable.

Soft and delicate aromas of earth and clay mixed with cherry, raspberry and dried herbs. On the palate the wine is dry and a touch savory with citrus, raspberry, and mineral notes. Concentrated with balancing acidity and a persistent finish.
