Ripe golden apple aromas with touches of lemon curd and petrol-like minerality are apparent on the nose. The fuller-bodied palate offers more orchard fruit, pear and citrus supported by well-integrated acidity.

"92 POINTS - The 2014 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35-year-old vines and the rest Monastrell from ancient vines fermented in the same way as Clio, starting in open-top, 4,500-liter stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and finishing in brand-new French and American oak barrels, where it also goes through malolactic. Aging in those new barrels lasted for almost two years. This is always quite ripe, and the Cabernet never shows any pyrazines or herbal aromas; there are plums, blackberries and a balsamic touch. This is full-bodied, powerful, concentrated and generously oaked. Black cherry, blueberry, blackberry and plum with layers of toast, chocolate, and baking spice notes can be found on the nose. The aromas translate into similar flavors with additional hints of cocoa,savory soil and wood and spice. The palate is medium bodied with lifting acidity and soft, but present, tannins. 

Between medium and full-bodied, this offering from Southeastern Spain is chock full of mulberries, cooked plums and raspberries with a sprinkling of cocoa. Baking spices and a hint of underbrush linger through the finish.

Bodegas El Nido was founded in 2002 and is part of the Gil Family Estate. The vineyards are comprised of 64 acres of old vine Monastrell, and 45 acres of 2- year old Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in barrels for about two years. This wine is big, complex and generous.

The wine shows a deep purple color and features aromatics of mixed crushed red and black fruits, sweet spice, and cedar. In the mouth, it is fuller-bodied with fantastic dark fruits, excellent mid-palate depth and ripe tannins.

Smoky black fruit aromas are supported by touches of mocha on the nose. Blackberries and cooked plums join spice box and black pepper on a bigger frame with supple tannins and a persistent finish.

This medium to fuller-bodied blend from old vines offers rich, berry-forward notes with subtle, integrated touches of spice and smoke. It’s characterful, but not overdone, so you can enjoy it immediately, with or without food.

This may remind you of a Cotes-du-Rhone in that it has wonderful, ripe Mediterranean fruit balanced by freshness and round tannins. However, there is a mineral character that also provides cut to the wine. It is medium plus in body with juicy acid and notes of dried herbs complementing the mixed berry fruit.

This Tempranillo, Merlot, Garnacha blend is a serious wine, its black fruits (cherry and raspberry) bonding with graphite, iron, dark earth, and chocolate aromas. The palate is medium bodied; its concentration and complexity emerge with exposure to air. It finishes with a touch of forest floor and smoke framed by food-friendly tannins.

Wine Advocate 90 “The grapey and juicy 2022 5/4 is a co-fermentation of 40% Cencibel and 20% each Garnacha Tintorera, Airén and Malvar in stainless steel and four used barrels with indigenous yeasts and matured in concrete for nine months. It’s medium-bodied with 13% alcohol, good freshness (a pH of 3.4) and some dusty tannins that call for food.”

La Atalaya del Camino 2022 exhibits an alluring cherry hue with a garnet rim. This Spanish blend of Garnacha and Syrah opens with dark, brooding, smokey cherry aromatics. The body is rich with juicy black cherry, chocolate, candied cherries, and touches of smoke. Finishing with soft tannins which complement the smoke and chocolate quite nicely.

It will work especially well with Mediterranean flavors such as rosemary, tapenade and roasted tomatoes.

This light rosé is uber-refreshing with subtle flavors of strawberry, lemon, and juicy watermelon. It is delicate and fine with a cleansing minerality reminiscent of a white wine.

This medium-weight Cava has a fine bead with complex flavors including, melon, quince, and apple skin. Slight toast, citrus and honey linger on the long finish.

This cava is pretty, delicate and very pear forward. The palate is clean and refreshing with light florality, stone fruits, lime zest and citrus pith with some nectarine and herbal notes.

Mineral-driven aromas with notes of apple, biscuit and kiwi on the nose. Creamy on the palate with toast and pear flavors, the acidity is fresh and clean supported by a fine bead.  Refreshing, chalky minerality lingers on the apple-laden finish.

A fun Spanish vermut spritz that smells like fresh dates, apricots, orange zest and shortbread cookies. The palate is delicious and almost brandy like with apple butter, fig newton, white raisins and white tea with some caramel. This is crushable with the right amount of bitter.

Made in the traditional method using indigenous Spanish grapes, the aromas burst with rich pear, green apple, and hints of cream. On the palate the wine shows great finesse and balance with notes of papaya and pear rounded out with hints of hazelnuts, and finishing with crisp acidity and freshness.
