Smoky black fruit aromas are supported by touches of mocha on the nose. Blackberries and cooked plums join spice box and black pepper on a bigger frame with supple tannins and a persistent finish.

Rose, liquorice, iodine, pepper

This liter bottle presents intense notes of black currant, cooked blackberry, and a touch of cigar smoke. Medium-weight with fine tannins, integrated acid and ripe dark cherry, it can be enjoyed with a slight chill.

An aromatic wine with lots of complexity, floral with pressed roses, spiced plum, licorice and blackberry. The palate shows come baking spice notes such as clove, licorice, and black pepper. More toast and macerated red cherries to finish. It is medium plus and drinking well now.  This is a classic, example of Chateauneuf.

In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.

Black and red cherry fruit on the nose with additional notes of Italian spices and dark florals. The palate is medium- bodied with fine attractive tannins and flavors of cherry, tree bark and savory herbs.

In this bottling from Yves Leccia, the French import Grenache—called Elegante in Corsica—takes center stage, offering fragrant notes of lavender spiced with balmy Mediterranean brush. There is ripeness on the attack and then refreshing sandalwood and vibrant black raspberry. A splash of the indigenous Niellucciu completes the blend, adding some muscle to this savory, cherry red whose sunny island flavors come into focus when slightly chilled.

Aromas of macerated cherries and crushed rocks. On the palate, this medium-plus body wine has depth and complexity with flavors of spice, mulled berries, clove, macerated cherries and mulberries. It is slightly rustic with medium acidity and medium tannins.

Aromas of warm earth, black currant, and dark cherries invite you in to this Rhone classic. Fuller-bodied with refreshing acidity to balance on the palate. More ripe dark fruit notes include cooked berries and some savory warm earth flavors with touches of dark chocolate and smoke.

A medium bouquet of red currants and cherries with cooked or concentrated raspberries and earth. The palate is sleek and supple with cherry, soil and plum. This wine is super fresh and yet deep with very fine and complex tannins and structure.

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). This co-fermented Chateauneuf is complex and appealing with scents reminiscent of potpourri, spiced plum, cassis and pressed flowers. There is a seduction about the aromas, like fine chocolate and wild animal; think truffle. It offers an opulent palate that is lovely, with blueberry, black currant, cooked plums, spice box, black tea, violets and forest floor. There are also hints of minerality and light toast joining with the ripe fruit. This full-bodied, flavorful red still offers "relief" and a sense of freshness which creates balance in the wine. It is texturally attractive and structurally balanced with medium acidity, well managed tannins and a long finish. 

This Tempranillo, Merlot, Garnacha blend is a serious wine, its black fruits (cherry and raspberry) bonding with graphite, iron, dark earth, and chocolate aromas. The palate is medium bodied; its concentration and complexity emerge with exposure to air. It finishes with a touch of forest floor and smoke framed by food-friendly tannins.

Tobacco, anise, earth and garrigue all come through in this wine. Over indulge with the aromas of red currants, smoke, baking spice, raspberry and violets. This is medium plus in body with a full and long finish with some warming qualities and medium plus tannins. This wine is still young but clearly exhibits some age worthy qualities.

Lovely aromas include raspberry, cassis, and black caps with touches of violets, leather and spiced plum. The mid-weight palate features juicy red and black berries and fruit leather supported by light sandalwood and floral-violet notes. Additional flavors of spice and smoke are framed around the lingering black cherry notes of this wine. Tannins remain smooth and acidity fresh. An excellent value wine!

A fragrant wine with lavender, blackberry, raspberry, warm earth, and touch of wild herbs. The flavors have classic Rhone character-- fleshy and darkly fruited with grippy structured tannins that give a root like quality. There are some mineral notes and black olives with red raspberry and smoke on the long finish.

"A rich purple in the glass. The complex nose features nuanced aromas ranging from blackberry to blueberry and currant with hints of cedar and spice. In the mouth, it’s juicy with a grippy texture and delicate, concentrated but relaxed tannins before the lengthy finish. It seems that the healthy biodynamic vineyard was able to withstand the warmth of 2020. An extremely well-made wine that handled the conditions with aplomb."

These barrels came directly from Louis’ estate Château de Rouanne, and possess the intensity, complexity, and depth

Aromatic, sweet and fruity with strawberry preserves, grapes, and minerality. The texture is balanced and restrained for Rasteau with potpourri, minerality and red cherries.  This wine’s restraint and supple tannins make it an ideal food partner.

Ripe raspberries and strawberries greet you on the nose with dark, ripe fruit and a savory hint following. The strawberries continue on the palate, fresh and rich, supported by silky, soft tannins and a little white pepper finish. Totally crushable.

On the nose, this red blend reveals attractive raspberry compote and stewed fruit, along with touches of bramble. The medium-bodied palate is composed of beautiful dark fruit and mineral notes with balanced acidity and silky tannins. It finishes with luscious plum flavors.

Medium plus in body with noticeably dry tannins and savory Mediterranean richness. Floral tones recall more northerly wines. It’s chewy, vigorous, and refreshing, with notes of black olive, wild herbs, and brambly fruit, supported by earthier forest floor, baking spice and mineral notes.

Notes of savory Provençal herbs, tomato leaf and woodsy red and black fruit can be found on the nose. This Mediterranean blend is medium-bodied with black and red cherry, fresh plum and wood spice. The palate is supple and wonderfully integrated for easy drinking. Enjoy with Mediterranean foods: mushroom or tomato-based dishes, lentils, beans, paella, pizza, or chicken.

You will find savory dark berries, dried cherry, light wood spice and black pepper on the nose of this wine, turning to concentrated, stewed fruit as it gains air. This red blend offers mixed cherries, bark, black pepper, and a touch of oak influence. It is medium weight with bright acidity and supple tannins. Enjoy it with grilled vegetables, tomato sauces, charcuterie and olives, grilled herbed sausages, burgers or steaks.

Aromas of wild raspberry, dried strawberry, earth, dried herbs and forest greet you on the nose. This wine is medium weight or slightly less. The palate is fruit forward with both tart and ripe notes including red raspberry, tart cherry and pomegranate fruit mixed with white pepper and lightly funky earth and herbs. Tannins are smooth with some perky acidity peeking out. 

Aromas of smoky black fruits emerge from the glass. The palate confirms this with flavors of cassis, blueberry, boysenberry, sweet tobacco and cocoa powder. Touches of black olive and bramble peek out. This medium-plus bodied, Spanish red with its soft tannins is berrylicious!

Lighter aromas include strawberry, watermelon, and pink grapefruit.  Juicy watermelon, peach, and pomegranate flavors are supported by fresh acid in this delicious dry rose.

Strawberry, cherry, and watermelon with a touch of tangerine greet you on the nose. The palate is dense and rounded with raspberry, strawberry, and a hint pleasing bitterness. This is a dry, fresh and mouth-filling wine and comes in a liter bottle -- what more could you want for summer?

Clean, invigorating notes of silex on the nose showcase the limestone soils of the Rouanne vineyard. The aromas and flavors develop as the wines opens to reveal wild strawberry and fresh thyme – a complex and flavorful sparkling rosé.
