"92 POINTS - The 2014 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35-year-old vines and the rest Monastrell from ancient vines fermented in the same way as Clio, starting in open-top, 4,500-liter stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and finishing in brand-new French and American oak barrels, where it also goes through malolactic. Aging in those new barrels lasted for almost two years. This is always quite ripe, and the Cabernet never shows any pyrazines or herbal aromas; there are plums, blackberries and a balsamic touch. This is full-bodied, powerful, concentrated and generously oaked. This medium-plus bodied wine shows nice ripeness and yet it also has freshness. There are notes of raspberry, cherry, cinnamon, garrigue and spices, and some acidity keeps it lifted. One can drink it now or enjoy it until 2030.

Complex and interesting aromas of plums, cooked currant and berries, black cherry and toasty wood. Thorough-going but soft tannins support lively, spicy dark fruits. All the components of this wine are well integrated and harmonious. It is easy to drink, just a bit over medium in body with a long finish.

The 2019 Sinister Hand displays spicy, dark, and savory characteristics. The exuberant nose has raspberry aromas with a hint of vanilla, while the lively palate has a soft juicy texture and a well-balanced acidity. Chewy tannins, black cherry, and a hint of toasty French oak round out the vibrant finish.

Dark stewed fruit of  blackberry and black currant introduce the wine. Fresh, ripe, and lightly smoky black fruits are balanced with a nice backbone of medium-plus acidity and touches of earth. Raspberry and plum notes emerge with time. This is medium bodied and lifted, making it a flavorful summer red.

This is a nice value with great texture and ripe balance with flavors of blackberry and black currants with a long finish. Vibrant, with a fresh core of cherry and cassis notes backed by anise, apple wood and garrigue hints through the finish. Nice underlying juiciness throughout. This wine begins with dark, steeped berries encircling fireplace and pine forest aromas. in the mouth, it is creamy and full-flavored, exhibiting wild black currant and dark chocolate flavors mixed with sweet tobacco and black cherry candy. The wine envelops your whole mouth and glides down the throat, leaving a hint of smoke and mocha. First rate and drinking beautifully now, but will age through 2028.

On the nose this wine has Moroccan spices, wet stone, smoke and black fruit like plum and blackberry. On the palate, there are rich blackcurrants and black cherries with dried herbs and garrigue along with notes of spice, kirsch, black licorice and bitter chocolate. This red is dense, with beautiful structure, velvety tannins and good length.

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). Aromas of licorice, and bright, macerated cherries and raspberries, along with a little savory note can be found on the nose. The palate is medium plus in body and ripe (nearly stewy), but not heavy. It gives red and black cherries and blackberries along with savory notes of herbs, bark and underbrush. With some air, everything comes together in this full-flavored, complex Spanish blend.

Aromas of macerated black fruits are spiced with coffee and white pepper notes. This is just over medium weight with black raspberry, black cherry, plum and blackberry fruit mixed with forest floor notes such as savory herbs (oregano), earth, roots and bark. This is ripe and easy drinking with supple tannins and juicy acidity.

Medium aromatics include cherry and plums with touches of earth, pine and spice.  More mulling spice flavors on the palate with ripe fruit echoing the aromas. Full-bodied, well-integrated and savory with touches of smoke, dark chocolate, and balsam supporting.

Tobacco, anise, earth and garrigue all come through in this wine. Over indulge with the aromas of red currants, smoke, baking spice, raspberry and violets. This is medium plus in body with a full and long finish with some warming qualities and medium plus tannins. This wine is still young but clearly exhibits some age worthy qualities.

This is a rich black-fruited Monastrell with concentrated aromas of elderberry, black plum, cassis, and a touch of licorice. The palate offers blackberry pie and is almost port-like in richness, yet touches of tomato leaf and coffee linger on the longer finish.

This co-fermented Chateauneuf is complex and appealing with scents reminiscent of potpourri, spiced plum, cassis and forest floor. There is something sleek and slick about the aromas, like fine chocolate and wild animal; think truffle. An opulent palate that is lovely, with black tea, bergamot, wild fruit of the forest, raisin, olives and forest floor. This is texturally attractive and nicely balanced with medium acidity, well managed tannins and a long finish.

Soft and delicate aromas of earth and clay mixed with cherry, raspberry and dried herbs. On the palate the wine is dry and a touch savory with citrus, raspberry, and mineral notes. Concentrated with balancing acidity and a persistent finish.

Jubilant aromas include bright cherry and berry notes.  The palate offers slight creaminess and excellent concentration of fruit with more red berries, some lemon and a clean, dry finish.

Clean, invigorating notes of silex on the nose showcase the limestone soils of the Rouanne vineyard. The aromas and flavors develop as the wines opens to reveal wild strawberry and fresh thyme – a complex and flavorful sparkling rosé.
