One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). This Southern Rhône blend shows great density and depth, with blackberry, kirsch, black raspberry, Asian spices, violets and bramble. While generous, red wines from Cairanne always present a certain refreshing character and finesse, and this wine is no exception.

Domaine de Fenouillet Ventoux Rouge 2020
This is a very aromatic wine, with fresh dark cherries and plums and a touch of pepper and bark. In the mouth, this is juicy, fruity (raspberries, figs, plums), and well structured by round tannins. It is complex, with a touch of savory dried herbs and woodsy notes, hints of coffee and chocolate, and a great mouthfeel. It’s definitely food-oriented, though it is also pleasurable alone.

At first, the nose is spicy with blackberry notes; with air, the second nose develops brambly and cocoa aromas are joined by toasted oak notes. The palate is full bodied and rich with velvety tannins. Complex fruit and savory flavors shine on the middle palate, licorice flavors on the long finish.

Paul Mas Reserve Carignan 2020
This wine gives mostly red fruits on the nose -- pomegranate, strawberry and raspberry, along with vanilla. It is medium plus in weight and quite rich with ultra-soft tannins that show it is in its prime drinking stage now. There are flavors of red cherry, raspberry, plum, strawberry coulis, licorice, vanilla and a touch of sassafras. You'll be talking about its texture though -- the integrated acidity and seamless tannins are a joy. What a value!

Ripe red and black fruit on the nose leads to a concentrated palate with more red berry and fig notes.  The wine is rich and full-bodied with youthful tannins and could benefit from some time, decanting or a rich meal to accompany it.

Complex aromas of dark cherry, plum, forest floor, cured meat, chalk and flowers. The palate is refreshing with blueberry, acai berries, cherry, plums and cigar box flavors. Its tannins are soft and integrated with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg on the finish.
