Tasting Notes

On the nose, this wine gives aromas of dark fruits and toasty oak. It is medium plus in body, ripe and concentrated, yet stays refined and fresh. Fruit of macerated black currants and spiced berries are joined by flavors of mocha, chocolate, toast, mulling spices, cinnamon and black pepper. It has round tannins and integrated acidity.

DeLille Cellars is regarded as a top American producer of Bordeaux-style blends, showcasing a tradition of quality and excellence over its 30-year history. DeLille remains a principal influence in establishing Washington State as a premier viticultural region, with a focus on the Red Mountain AVA and other premier vineyard sites throughout the Columbia Valley.

Founded on the concept of crafting world-class wine from Washington State, DeLille Cellars was founded by Chris Upchurch, Jay A. Soloff, Greg Lill, and his father Charles Lill.  In 1992, DeLille pioneered two wines: Chaleur Estate and D2. Both these wines are Bordeaux-inspired blends, consisting primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Today, the portfolio consists of more than a dozen Bordeaux and Rhône style blends, as well as small lot Burgundian expressions, true to the terroir of the region.

The  philosophy lies in showcasing the powerful, concentrated and structured fruit of Washington State, with a focus on what the winery calls the “grand cru” vineyards of the region. D2 is sourced from over a dozen Columbia Valley vineyards, including Red Willow, Harrison Hill, Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun, Boushey, DuBrul, Upchurch and Grand Ciel.

Grapes are cold soaked 24-36 hours, fermented for 12-14 days on the skin, and aged 18 months in French oak (55% new). The winery suggests drinking the wine now or holding it for up to 15 years from the vintage. Delille Cellars has an attractive, three-story tasting room, an on-site restaurant (called The Lounge), and a thriving wine club. It is located in Woodinville, Washington.
