Tasting Notes

This is a classic, well-made expression of the appellation with aromas and flavors of citrus, fresh herbs, and crushed rocks. The wine is medium weight, but the edges are round rather than sharp and there is a density that shows the quality of farming. Rather than only green flavors, it shows depth and complexity with pear and melon ripeness structured by crisp acidity. Notes of flint and limestone lend a strong mineral character to the finish. The complexity continues to develop as the wine gets some air.

WINE INFORMATION

Located in the heart of the Sancerre region, Domaine Delaporte is a family business that has been passed from father to son since the 17th century. The Domaine is found in the beautiful village of Chavignol, which is renowned for the goat cheese Crottin de Chavignol. Since 2010, Vincent Delaporte’s grandson, Matthieu Delaporte, has been focused on further improving the Domaine’s wine. Precision, balance, and complexity are the maxims of the Domaine Delaporte cuve?es, with each delivering a strong sense of individual terroir, marked by considerable minerality, power, and freshness.

The Sauvignon Blanc comes from vines that are more than 50 years of age, planted in flint soil “Silex”. They are cultivated following traditional, sustainable methods so as to maximize respect for the ecosystem and the environment. These soils encourage a slower maturation of the grapes, which allows a later harvest and an improved resistance to disease. This soil produces a wine with remarkable potential for ageing.

Grapes are picked by hand in October and then sorted into boxes. The grapes are put in whole bunches into the hydraulic press (Coquard) where the pressing is done in a gentle and slow manner in order to obtain clear juice of the highest quality. This juice is then put in to barrels of 2000 liters. It remains in the barrels between 8 and 12 months, during which it undergoes fermentation and a period of resting on lees.
