Wine Information
The Loire River flows from west to east across north central France, emptying into the Atlantic below the spout of the teapot that is France. It is a commercially important region, and one that is rich in history and beauty, with scores of castles along its length. Viticulturally, it is one of the most varied regions, producing red, rosé, and white, dry and sweet, still and sparkling wines. A lively acidity and a certain precision are the hallmarks of the wine.
Touraine surrounds the city of Tours and marks the division between the milder Atlantic-influenced climate of the western Loire and the continental climate of the east. Winemaking in the Loire tends to be minimalist, non-interventionist, so the true varietal and terroir characters show through.
This is a custom cuvée made for, and selected by, Polaner Selections by the Loire master Francois Chidaine. The grapes for Clos de la Grange are sourced from several parcels from within the Touraine, including a vineyard called “Clos de la Grange Rouge” from which the wine gets its name. Grapes are biodynamically grown and hand harvested. The wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts then aged on its lees in stainless steel until bottling in March.
Tasting Notes
Elegant and complex aromatics of citrus, white peach, white flowers, and slate. On the palate this wine is dry, zesty, chalky, and flinty with notes that emulate the nose (stone fruit, meadow flowers, and citrus.) Medium bodied with depth, refreshing acidity and longer finish.
