WINE INFORMATION
Nestled in the Loire Valley, Quincy was the first appellation from the Centre-Loire to obtain AOC status (1936). The village of Quincy is located along the Cher River across from the town of Menetou-Salon, another Sauvignon Blanc appellation.
J. de Villebois has carefully selected the best Sauvignon Blanc grapes from limestone soil to produce this aromatic and delicate wine with exotic and mineral notes. Sustainably-farmed grapes are quickly transported to the winery to minimize skin contact before gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. The grape juice is fermented traditionally in stainless steel tanks for 7 to 15 days. The newly made wine is then aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks for at least six months. It is then blended and bottled in the spring following the harvest.
Descending from an old French family (c. 1180) that was established in the Netherlands since the 19th century, (where the V became a W) Joost and Miguela de Willebois are passionate about French culture, the medieval period and the Loire Valley. With their 4 sons, they settled in Touraine in 1996 where they fell in love with Loire Sauvignon Blanc. After successful professional careers spanning the globe, they now devote themselves fully to the expansion of J. de Villebois from their family home in the Touraine. In 2008, Joost and Winemaker Thierry Merlet decided to become Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc specialists with a multi-appellation strategy. In 2015, the Villebois family purchased Domaine Fournier Père et Fils, the second largest independent producer in Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé and Menetou Salon. They expanded by purchasing more vineyards in 2019 in Touraine.
