This wine is expressive of the Keuka lake soil which is rocky and contains much shale. Soils are acidic and grapes come from a higher elevation above the lake.
Dr. Konstantin Frank, originally from the Ukraine, is the Grandfather of high quality wine in the Finger Lakes. He was the first to graft Vitis Vinifera onto Vitis Labrusca rootstock, allowing us to produce world class wines. He experimented with 60 varieties at the vineyards and winery he built overlooking Keuka Lake in 1962. The winery is now proudly run by the third and fourth generation of the family and turns out consistently great Riesling at reasonable prices.
