Bob Lynde is a native of Portland Oregon who fell in love with South Africa and its wines while the country still faced an international economic boycott. When the boycott was lifted in the early ‘90s, he was ready, founding Cape Classics, one of the first companies to import South African wines to the US. He began a collaborative project with local growers, the “Bob’s African” line of wines—solid sippers offering great value—and 10% of the proceeds went to local NGOs in the communities where the wines were produced. He sold the import company in 2005 to focus on developing the Fat Barrel Brand, which includes both South African and Oregon wines, and continues the Bob’s wines as well. The Fat Barrel line of wines uses fruit grown by “selected” growers that Fat Barrel has worked with for more than 10 years.

Aromas of wet stone, lime and grapefruit pith and cantaloupe. The palate delivers tropical fruit and citrus zest with a round finish and clean minerality.

Aromas of peaches and cream, nectarine and a touch of floral character on the nose. Soft and round on the palate with more stone fruit flavors and refreshing minerality to balance.

Clean aromas of blackberry and cassis are joined by Shiraz spice on the nose. Flavors are fruity and somewhat soft on the entry. This is more red fruited than you might expect, with leather, spice and light toast combining with perfectly ripe fruit.

The grape Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Aromas include blackberry, black currant and touches of espresso and smoke. This medium-weight wine has juicy blackberry and blueberry notes supported by distinctive and well-integrated liquid smoke flavors. It is nicely balanced with medium acidity and sleek tannins, with mocha lingering on the finish. 

A stylish red that's fresh and focused, showing expressive aromas and flavors of blackberry, dried lavender, espresso and iron in a well-knit, medium- to full-bodied frame. Wood and baking spice with black and red cherry can be found on the nose. The palate is savory and deep with smoke, berries, black pepper, and mocha. The slightly grippy tannins and moderate acidity provide structure.

This gin is very smooth and complex! There are aromas of juniper, dandelion, lemon, golden raisins, coriander and cilantro. The palate is reminiscent of oak influence with black pepper, spices, grilled lime, anise and chamomile. It is soft and round mouthful with lingering spice.
