Medium-bodied, stone fruits and tropical aromas lead to peach and apricot flavors with touches of pear and light florality. Bob Lynde is a native of Portland Oregon who fell in love with South Africa and its wines while the country still faced an international economic boycott. When the boycott was lifted in the early ‘90s, he was ready, founding Cape Classics, one of the first companies to import South African wines to the US. He began a collaborative project with local growers, the “Bob’s African” line of wines—solid sippers offering great value—and 10% of the proceeds went to local NGOs in the communities where the wines were produced. He sold the import company in 2005 to focus on developing the Fat Barrel Brand, which includes both South African and Oregon wines, and continues the Bob’s wines as well. The Fat Barrel line of wines uses fruit grown by “selected” growers that Fat Barrel has worked with for more than 10 years.

The color is clear and bright. The nose is fresh and clean with expressive flavor characteristics of passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and black currant. These flavors follow through onto the palate which has a lovely creamy, yet elegant, texture the result of extended lees contact and the portion of Semillon. Pair with sushi and shellfish.

Complex and elegant, with layers of pure, concentrated pear, citrus and stone fruit flavors, mouth-watering acidity and a tangy, mineral core.

Aromas of wet stone, lime and grapefruit pith and cantaloupe. The palate delivers tropical fruit and citrus zest with a round finish and clean minerality.

A zesty juicy, medium body Albariño from South Africa. An attractive floral nose with a soft palate of of lemon, lime, green pear, nectarine and green melon.

The grape Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Aromas include blackberry, black currant and touches of espresso and smoke. This medium-weight wine has juicy blackberry and blueberry notes supported by distinctive and well-integrated liquid smoke flavors. It is nicely balanced with medium acidity and sleek tannins, with mocha lingering on the finish. 

Aromas of blackberry jam, black currant skin, bramble and scorched earth cue up this wine. The palate offers juicy black fruit, integrated smokiness, dark chocolate and savory and spicy notes of forest floor and tree bark. It is medium plus in body with a few years’ age evident in its silky and plush tannins.

From the producer: For those who do not like it dry, the Graham Beck Bliss Nectar Rosé is a fine excuse for self-indulgence and frivolity. Beautiful silver pink in colour with light yeasty aromas, hints of raspberry and strawberry, a touch of honeyed praline; this delectable bubbly will stimulate your sweeter senses. 

This gin is very smooth and complex! There are aromas of juniper, dandelion, lemon, golden raisins, coriander and cilantro. The palate is reminiscent of oak influence with black pepper, spices, grilled lime, anise and chamomile. It is soft and round mouthful with lingering spice.
