Tasting Notes

A particular specialty of the Valle Isarco. Peaches, apricots, and tones of tangerines on the nose. Medium weight, very lively, juicy, and sleek on the palate, with orchard fruits balanced by a mineral backbone. Nectarines, pears, apples and tangerines linger in this vibrant, fresh white. Lovely with seafood, white meats, many vegetarian dishes, appetizers or cheese.

Kerner is a white wine variety created in Württemberg, Germany in 1929. It has as parents the red grape Trollinger (aka Schiava or Vernatsch) and the white grape Riesling, and is named in honor of physician and poet Justinus Kerner whose songs and poetry celebrated all things wine. Kerner is Germany's third most-planted white grape after Riesling and Sylvaner, and produces wines characterized as having Riesling-like flavors but expressing milder acidity and a denser body.

Abbazia di Novacella- Italy’s northernmost winery- is located at 1,800 feet above sea level in the gorgeous  Isarco Valley of the Alto Adige. It is potentially the oldest winery in production in the world, having been founded in 1142 by Augustinian Monks who continue to nurture the vines there today.  They have three key vineyards- one that surrounds the Abbey and brings in the estate’s white varietals, and two lower vineyards down in the warmer regions of the Alto Adige valley, where the winery’s red wine grapes are nurtured.
