This wine is rich and dark for Montepulciano. On the nose, it offers purple and black fruit aromas mixed with earth. The palate is concentrated with fruit of dried black currants, kirsch, and black cap raspberries, along with barn, black olive and bittersweet chocolate notes. The medium-plus-bodied palate is soft on entry with lightly grippy tannins, integrated acidity and a long finish.
The winery takes its name from an important family from their area who was of Austrian heritage but whose family lived in Abruzzo for centuries. The last member of the family was Diego de Sterlich (1898-1976) who was a famous race car driver and co-founder of the Maserati brand in italy. He also dedicated himself to winemaking and helped preserve a focus on quality winemaking in italy.
