Tasting Notes

Aromas of crushed rocks join with nectarine, white peach and hints of citrus on the nose. Abundant fruit flavors of apricot, white peach, lemon and pineapple show prominently on the palate. The wine is dry with medium body and crisp acidity, along with plenty of minerality, leading to a generous finish. Tasty and unique!

WINE INFORMATION

Pardevalles is recognized for being one of the driving forces behind the D.O Tierra de León, betting on the development of the indigenous grape varieties Prieto Picudo and Albarín Blanco. The Albarín grape, not to be confused with Albariño,  is an indigenous variety from the south of the province of León. This grape variety had almost disappeared until Pardevalles recovered it. The estate was founded in 1949 by Rafael Alonso, based on his family traditions of growing grapes and making wine. Pardevalles is currently operated by the second and third generations. Located in the village of Valdevimbre Leon, near the Camino de Santiago, the winery has modern facilities with historical elements. It was the first in the region to utilize conical stainless steel tanks and system temperature control during fermentation. This state is sustainably managed with 38 hectares of vineyard planted with only the indigenous varieties Prieto Picudo and Albarín Blanco.

Their vineyards are located between 750 and 820 meters above sea level, in an area with a Continental climate, with marked differences between temperatures and sharp thermal contrasts between the day and the night.  The vineyards are based on poor, rocky, quaternary soils with many large rounded stones which absorb the heat of the sun during the day. These large stones help the plant to manage the low temperatures at night as well as to improve the warmth for ripening the grapes.
