Classically South African with smoke, roasted red pepper and blackberry. The palate reflects the nose with kirsch, cooked berries, soft tannins and jammy raspberry. The smokiness is balanced by the ripe fruit.
WINE INFORMATION
Lovely Creatures is a nod to the eponymous album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but it is also an homage to the often-overlooked critters that make up the ecosystem of a vineyard.
This winery was established by importer Vine Street Imports. The wines are made by Stephanie Wiid of Thistle & Weed.
Grapes come from a single vineyard with clay granitic soils and farmed sustainably. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are fully destemmed before being gently crushed. Then they are fermented in small 1-2 ton lots with most of the ferments being carried out without inoculation. After ten days on the skins the grapes were pressed to tank to settle overnight then racked to older French barriques for aging. In the spring the wine was lightly sulfured and after a total of 12 months aging it was racked to blend and bottled without fining or filtration and just another small sulfur addition.
