The aromas are dark fruited with appealing notes of Chinese Five-Spice, leather, dark chocolate and black pepper. On the palate, this is between medium and full bodied with notes of plum, raspberry, violet, black tea and licorice. The texture is beautifully supple with round tannins and juicy acid with a dried fruit finish. A complete and utterly delicious wine!
WINE INFORMATION
Beckmen Vineyards began after Tom and Judy Beckmen left their innovative electronic music company, Roland Corp, to become pioneers of California wine. With youngest son Steve as Winemaker, and oldest son Jeff joining as Director of Sales later on, Beckmen Vineyards is a family-owned and operated winery. Since 1994, it has established itself as a benchmark Santa Barbara County grower and producer.
Beckmen wines are crafted almost exclusively from their two vineyards, the Thomas and Judith Beckmen Estate Vineyard in Los Olivos District AVA and Purisima Mountain Vineyard in Ballard Canyon AVA. They farm over 150 acres of vines using biodynamic principles. Grapes are harvested anywhere from late September all the way into November. Several clones of each grape are used. These are hand picked and then sorted as needed before separate fermentations with natural yeast. The wines are aged for 14 months in 12% new French oak and the rest in neutral oak of various sizes.
Although the Beckmens grow a variety of grapes, their focus is on Rhone varieties, especially Syrah and Grenache.
