WINE INFORMATION

Ktima Gerovassiliou is located on the slopes of Epanomi, a few kilometers from the city of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city. Since 1981, it has been cultivating vines meticulously and making wine at its beautiful and modern winery. Vangelis Gerovassilliou was schooled in Agriculture in Greece as well as Oenology and Viticulture in Bordeaux, eventually becoming a collaborator of Professor Emile Peynaud. He began experimenting with both Greek and foreign varieties in a renovated vineyard which once belonged to his family. Vangelis was instrumental in saving the Malagousia grape from extinction.

Over time, he bought or created several other wineries. Now, the second generation has joined him. His children, ??Argyris, Marianthi and Vassiliki recently completed their studies in Oenology, Management and Marketing respectively.

Ktima Gerovassiliou is a single private vineyard stretching over 80 hectares (200 acres). The climate in the region of Epanomi is Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers, tempered by sea breezes. The vineyard is surrounded on three sides by the sea, which is four kilometres distant, while its west side faces the Thermaic Gulf and Mount Olympus, and the beaches of Pieria. The soil is mainly sandy with a few clayey substrates and calcareous rocks. It is rich in sea fossils, since the surrounding hilly area was formed by sea deposits.?

Following skin contact in cold temperatures, vinification is carried out in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The wine is left on its lees for several months in order to gain structure and body.
