Tasting Notes

This wine is very aromatic with rosewater, jasmine, some talc/mineral notes, and stone fruits, along with lime and lime blossom.  The palate offers more vibrant citrus (lime, grapefruit) and lingering apricot, white tea and grape notes. If you love aromatic wines with floral notes, this balanced, mouthwatering white is your jam!

WINE INFORMATION

Susana Balbo is a family-run winery dedicated to sustainable agriculture. Susana is known as the “Queen of Torrontés” for her role in transforming Torrontés from an unknown blending grape into Argentina’s star white varietal. Founded by Susana Balbo, the most celebrated female winemaker in Argentina, she left the leadership in 2011. Now, her son Jose, is the head winemaker for Crios.

Crios means “offspring,” in the sense of children.  These wines have not yet quite grown up to the level of her more expensive wines; they’re meant to be drunk young.  The label has a drawing of three hands inspired by a Mayan artifact and represents Susana and her own crios (kids), a boy and a girl.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from the highest Andean vineyards in the Valle de Uco (Mendoza Province) and Cafayate (Salta Province).  The vineyards are about 5800 feet above sea level.  The weather is very dry, solar radiation intense, and nights very cool.  Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts at 12-14ºC (54-57ºF) maximum with conservation on lees for three months to improve the structure of the wine
