This wine presents classic Rhone aromas -- blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, smoke, earth, and mineral notes. The palate is medium plus in body with black currant and black raspberry fruit joining minerality, stone, a touch of smoke, and olives. The wine is velvety, pure, and suave with refreshing acidity, just-right density, and ripeness. There is some earthiness throughout.
WINE INFORMATION
Domaine Chantepierre is a label from the Cooperative of Winegrowers of Tavel and Lirac (La Cave des Vignerons de Tavel et Lirac). This is located in the Rhône Valley in Southern France at the doorstep of Provence. One hundred growers sell their grapes to the co-op, and once the wines are made, one-third of the production is exported to other countries, while two-thirds is sold in France (much of it in the region).
It is a typical practice to create different levels of wines and various labels within the cooperative. Grapes for Domaine Chantepierre come from a vineyard owned by the President of the Cave Cooperative, Christian Padie. After destemming, thid is fermented and aged in stainless steel.
The Côtes-du-Rhône appellation enjoys a favorable and consistent growing climate, and the quality-to-price ratio is exceptional. The wines are almost always blends of grape varieties, with Grenache composing the largest share of the grape composition. The appellation is one of the first to be recognized in France (1937) and the labeling accounts for 67% of the wines produced in the region. The defining factors in the region are the Mediterranean climate, the Mistral winds and the Rhône River. Within the appellation, growers, wineries and trade associations have committed to farming sustainably, promoting biodiversity and fighting climate change.
