Aromas of black cherry, pomegranate, plum, milk chocolate, vanilla and a hint of toast. On the palate this medium-bodied wine is bright with red fruit (cherry and plum) and tobacco and cedar notes. The tannins are present but not in the way.
WINE INFORMATION
Located south of the Cantabrian Mountains along the Ebro River, La Rioja benefits from a continental climate. The mountains help to isolate the region which has a moderating effect on the climate. They also protect the vineyards from the fierce winds that are typical of northern Spain. The region is also home to the Oja river (Rio Oja), believed to have given the region its name. Most of the region is situated on a plateau, a little more than 1,500 feet (460 m) above sea level. The area is subdivided into three regions - Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Red wines from Rioja are typically Tempranillo-based.
This wine is a cuvée specifically made for importer Kysela Père et Fils (KPF). Grapes come from the Montebuena vineyards in Labastida, in the heart of Rioja. It is located in the eastern part of the village and covers more than 395 acres. Montebuena means “good mountain.”
The Tempranillo comes from vines that are 20-25 years of age. Grapes are hand harvested. The winery employs precision viticulture techniques using the latest technology to track the vegetative cycle - they developed a pioneering system of weather stations that allows the winery to monitor their vineyards’ health and thus prevent diseases that might damage the grapes. Aged for 3-4 months in new French oak barrels.
