Blackberry, balsamic vinegar, pencil lead, and cracked pepper aromas with a supple, round medium-to-full body and a smooth, buttery nut brittle, dried blackberries, cedar, and dusty spice. This wine is slightly earthy and leathery; full of flavor without losing elegance.
WINE INFORMATION
Tikal is owned by Ernesto Catena, 4the generation winemaker of Italian descent and son of Argentine wine pioneer Nicolás Catena, and is named after his son. Having spent a part of his life working as a designer and being a fervent student of Renaissance humanism, he sees it as his mission to transform everything in his wine world into art , from growing the grapes to making wine to selling it.
Over the years, Ernesto and his team designed their biodynamic farm and vineyard as a sculpture to be gazed upon from the sky, similar to how the Mayas and the Incas designed their cities to be enjoyed by the Gods. Their vineyard is surrounded by natural flora and animals that help them achieve a state of harmony and equilibrium. They pay homage to the Sun in their Rose Garden, and to the Moon in their Vine Labyrinth with music and dancing.
He has named his wines with passion in mind: Patriota (Patriot), Amorio (Love Affair), Jubilo (Rejoice). The latest addition to the line Natural, is made with 100% certified organic and biodynamic grapes.
The fruit for this comes from the estate owned Vista Flores vineyard with an average vine age of 15 years. The grapes are hand-harvested and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered after aging for 12 months in 25% new French oak and 75% one-year used French oak barrels.
