Alluring aromas of light lemon, lemon blossom, lacy stone, wildflowers, and honey. Refreshing on the palate, with rounded acidity, and white peach and dessert apple fruit. Exciting and very nicely balanced. It is medium bodied with a longer finish.
WINE INFORMATION
Aprémont is a hilly/mountainous region in eastern France on the Swiss border. It sees numerous tourists in the summer who come for the hiking and in the winter, for skiing. These visitors, along with the local populace, consume 99% of Savoie’s wines. The wine here is about 70% white, with Jacquère the most widely planted variety, making up 70% of the vineyards. Mondeuse is the major red. Jacquère is a mid- to late-ripening variety, at home in clay-limestone and rocky soils.
The Chamiot family has grown grapes here for several generations, and Romain took over from his grandparents to continue the tradition. Vines grow on seven hectares (ha) scattered over 30 parcels, nearly all planted to Jacquère. He grows 0.2 ha of Mondeuse, but none is exported.) The majority of the vineyards average 50 years old, with some parcels over 80. Vine density is 8,000/ha. Due to the topography, most vineyard work is manual, with hand-harvesting harvest extending over two weeks, parcel-by-parcel, as the grapes ripen. After whole-cluster direct pressing, grapes ferment in stainless steel and enameled concrete tanks; 80% ferment spontaneously using natural yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in the same vessels. After 4-6 months in tank on the lees, the wines is pressed and blended, bentonite fined, and lightly plate-filtered. It is bottled with minimal sulfur.
