Tasting Notes

Pretty aromatics with medium to medium plus viscosity. Quite red fruited for a cabernet with red cherry and red currant and medium tannin. Ripe but not jammy fruit with some black pepper, bramble and herbs.

The winery’s name “Casarena” is a creative merging of the Spanish words “casa” (house) and “arena” (sand), and is a tribute to their restored 1930s winery made of sand-colored stone and the sandy soil that their estate is built on. The winemaker, Mariano Quiroga Adamo, is young and innovative. Formerly the winemaker at El Porvenir in Salta, he won “Young Winemaker of the Year” at the Gaucho Annual Winemaker awards held in the U.K.

Casarena, using 100% estate-grown fruit, focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon and its blends.

Grapes for this wine come from 20-25-year old vines grown at 3,000 feet altitude. They are planted on alluvial gravel soils with sand, clay and large stones. The grapes are hand harvested, then fermented in concrete tanks with wild yeasts and aged in concrete for six months.
