This organic white blend has aromas of citrus and tropical fruits (passion fruit, guava and gooseberry) with a hint of white flowers. On the palate this dry wine is refreshing with notes of lemon thyme, pink grapefruit, and fresh cut grass in addition to tropical fruits. It has a round texture and a fairly long finish.
WINE INFORMATION
Bodega Sierra Norte was established in 1914 in Camporrobles, Requena, Valencia. They farm 322 hectares of certified organic vineyards and mainly focus on Bobal, Monastrell and Macabeo. The winery works alongside the University of Valencia conducting research projects focused on the study of organic and sustainable viticulture, clonal selection of the Bobal grape, and the use of indigenous yeast.
The Spanish wine region of Utiel-Requena, name for two towns in the province of Valencia, has a fairly harsh climate – cold winters, hot summers, and little rainfall. The best vineyards tend to be located at higher altitudes, ranging from 2000 to 3000 feet. About 80% of vineyard land is planted to Bobal, a late-ripening, dark-skinned grape variety indigenous to the southeast of Spain.
Grapes for this wine grow in the town of Fuenteseca at 920 meters above sea level, Soils are loam with deep sandy limestone. The vines are about 16 years old. Each variety was harvested at night at optimal maturation time and vinified separately using mainly free-run juice, cold settled, and fermented in tank. It rested on the fine lees to add body and smoothness and prevent oxidation. Fining, stabilization, and filtering were all gently carried out using no animal products.
