Tasting Notes

Fresh, pure and clean on the nose with rhubarb, red cherry and blood orange. There's a little prickle to keep it lively and on the palate. The palate gives more tangerine, and blood orange with bolder savory flavors. This succulent liter bottle is perfect on its own or with a myriad of foods, like Mexican, charcuterie or chicken with BBQ sauce.

WINE INFORMATION

In 1990, three wineries merged into one powerful estate — Borell-Diehl — as a result of the marriage between Annette Borell and Thomas Diehl.  The wines of Borell-Diehl are crafted at their estate located in Hainfeld, Germany, in an old timbered home built in 1619 accompanied by 35 hectares of vineyards.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling are the focus of the estate, while other grape varieties such as Grüner Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, St. Laurent, Schwarzriesling, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon are also explored here.

Starting with a total of 5 hectares, they have since expanded to 35 hectares of vineyards, all within 5km of Hainfeld, about 1/2 hour drive from Deidesheim. Their holdings are a complex geology of loess, limestone, red sandstone, with deposits of minerally muschelkalk (limestone) in some sites.

Annette and Thomas' oldest son George is now poised to take over leadership at the estate. Having staged at important addresses like Rebholz (Pfalz) Wittmann (Rheinhessen), and Von Volxem (Saar), as well as an internship in New Zealand in 2016, he will continue the winery's focus on quality wines of extraordinary value. All the wines David Bowler imports are from estate-owned vineyards where rigorous crop thinning and hand-harvesting are the norm. In addition, no systemic pesticides or herbicides are used and there is no irrigation in the vineyards.

FOOD PAIRING

This liter of rosé is great for summer barbecues and sharing with friends — you do get an extra glass, after all!  Enjoy with grilled chicken, sausages — especially chorizo, or vegetable kebabs.  It’s also a fine partner for fish or shrimp dishes, and works well with light summer salads.
