Tasting Notes

Medium aromatics with peach and apricot, apple, with a refreshing hint of citrus.  The palate is round yet fresh with flavors of pear, wet stone, and a little beeswax character.  It is medium in body, with a long finish.

WINE INFORMATION

CasaSmith is the line of wines that Charles Smith makes with his Italian wife, Ginestre Casa. They focus on Italian varieties grown in Washington as well as two sparkling wines made in Italy. Charles is the man behind K Vintners (known particularly for Syrah) and other brands, mostly from WA.  He’s the son of a French father and a Welsh mother, and grew up in California in a family that regularly drank wine.  He moved to Denmark, working as a roadie for a rock band and moving on to arrange concert tours.  He returned to the States in 1999 and opened a wine shop on Bainbridge Island near Seattle.  On a road trip, he met a Frenchman who shared his passion for Syrah, and was persuaded to move to Walla Walla and make wine.  He released his first vintage, the’99 two years later and never looked back.  He is known for the strong black-and-white graphics of his labels, all created by a Danish friend.

Grapes for this wine come from the Evergreen Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes, owned by the Milbrandt family. The soil is fragmented basalt, gravel and silt.  After harvest, grapes are whole cluster pressed, fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts and aged for 4 months on the lees in tanks.
