Tasting Notes

Spicy aromas of vanilla and baking spices join red currants and plums, forest floor and licorice.  The palate provides red berries with cigar box, vanilla and sweet tobacco. This wine has a beautiful velvety mouthfeel. Tannins are thorough and the finish lingers.

WINE INFORMATION

Grupo Bodegas Olarra owns three wineries, one of which is Bodegas Olarra in La Rioja. Cerro Añon is the top line of wines produced at Olarra. Bodegas Olarra prides itself in the design of the winery by architect Juan Antonio Ridruejo in 1973. One of its most identifying features it is the roof that crowns the barrel cellar, made up of 111 hexagonal domes arranged in this way to prevent sharp changes of temperature in order to allow these long aged wines to do so in the most natural and stable way possible.

Most of the fruit used to make this wine comes from la Rioja Alavesa with an average vine age of twenty years.

Grapes were harvested in mid-September. After a 15-day maceration in stainless steel tanks, one third of the wine went through malolactic fermentation in new 225-litre French and American oak casks, while the remaining two thirds did their malolactic in concrete tanks. Barrel ageing was done in 225-liter oak casks, of which 80% were made of American oak, and it lasted for fourteen to fifteen months with regular racking. The age of the barrels varied from first-use to seven+ years old.  After fining and bottling, the wine remained in our bottle cellar for a minimum of seven months before we started to release it.
