This may remind you of a Cotes-du-Rhone in that it has wonderful, ripe Mediterranean fruit balanced by freshness and round tannins. However, there is a mineral character that also provides cut to the wine. It is medium plus in body with juicy acid and notes of dried herbs complementing the mixed berry fruit.
This wine is a blend of varieties led by Cencibel (the local strain of Tempranillo), Moravia, and Bobal, along with a few white grapes (Airen and Macabeo) that grow alongside the reds. The fruit comes from three vineyards with vines averaging 30-75 years old. The pressed wines are aged for 3 months in centenarian locally made clay tinajas (amphorae) followed by 2 months in used French barrels. The wine is bottled with no fining or filtration.
