Rich inky black berries dominate the aromas of this wine with hints of earthy bramble mulberry, plum and licorice root. The palate continues with more concentrated dark, earthy tree bark, and integrated structuring slightly grippy tannins. The finish is long with spicy cinnamon and licorice flavors.
The Castorani estate dates back to 1793 when it was given as part of a dowry to the Castorani family. The estate went through slow decline but was reinvigorated by local business friends who bought and restored it in 1999. The fruit is all estate organically-grown and hand-harvested with 30% of the wine aged in oak for 12 months and 70% aged in stainless steel tank for balance.
