This wine is both structured and jammy with red fruits of raspberry and strawberry candy along with a touch of raisin joining woodsy, cocoa, coffee and licorice flavors. It is medium plus in body with moderate acid and tannin. Lamb, beef and duck are great partners for this Portuguese red, perhaps echoing the wine flavors by using a sauce of red cherry or a prune stuffing. Vegetarians can pair hearty bean dishes, rich, braised vegetables or shakshouka (eggs poached in tomatoes with Morrocan spices).
