This wine is aged in French and American oak. The aromas are dark berries and some dark chocolate. The palate is rich and voluptuous with both dark and red fruit like wild blackberry and red currants. The texture is broad, harmonious and still pure with the fruit being fresh and some chocolate like the aromas suggested.
WINE INFORMATION
The inception for this partnership began in 2007 with two winemakers who have history in wine production in Portugal for decades, João Portugal Ramos and José Maria Soares Franco. Duorum meaning “from two” in Latin is the work of two vineyards, located in the regions of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, two protected terroirs, and only with autochthonous varieties. In Cima Corgo, there is low rainfall, high temperatures and thermal amplitudes during the growth cycle. The Douro Superior is less rugged, with generally gentler slopes and shallower valleys. All grapes are grown in a terrace like system. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with the highest summer temperatures and annual rainfall close to 400mm. Both the winery and the vineyards are located in the Douro Demarcated Region, one of the oldest in the world and whose landscape and cultural values has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
All grapes are hand-picked into small 15 kg boxes, they are selected first in the vineyard for bunches that are in absolute ripeness, bunches that are not in perfect condition are not harvested.
Fermentation of the grapes is done in marble vats for the production the red wines. Fermentation ends in oak barrels and are aged for 3 months in French and American oak before bottling, and aged an additional 12 months in bottle.
