Tasting Notes

Complex aromas of wild berries, red fruits, leather and spices (vanilla, pepper, clove), with hints of ripe blackberry. On the palate this medium-bodied wine has flavors of cherry, pomegranate, floral notes and crushed rocks. The finish is long.

WINE INFORMATION

Alpha Estate is located in the heart of the Amyndeon, a wine region in the Northwest of Greece. The estate’s vineyards cover 65 hectares situated on a plateau between 620 and 710 meters above sea level. The soil is sandy clay, ideal for water drainage.

It was founded in 1997 by renowned enologist Angelo Iatridis. Angelo cultivates international varieties as well as indigenous Greek varieties, and all the wines are elaborated in Alpha’s state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery.

Grapes for this wine come from the Hedgehog vineyard. It lies at 690m altitude, with northern exposure, facing lake Petron and mount Voras. This is a linear vineyard, with sandy clay soil over limestone.  Upon arrival to the winery grapes are destemmed and cold soaked followed by alcoholic fermentation in tank at gradually increasing temperature for aromatic complexity. The wine is kept on its lees for eight months with regular stirring. This is followed by 12 months in French oak barrel medium grain, white toasting and twelve months in the bottle.
