This is a rounder, richer representation of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It is medium-plus in body with abundant fruit flavors that include melon and melon rind, papaya, gooseberry and green pear. With softer acidity than is typical, this wine is still a classic example.
WINE INFORMATION
Sandy Cove is produced for importer and distributor Bowler by well-known winemaker Allan Scott, one of the pioneers in Marlborough, New Zealand. Allan started working in the wine industry in the 1970's and planted his first vineyard in 1973. He founded his own family run estate in 1990. Allan remembers it well: “We were one of a small number who made up the first wave of the independents.” The Allan Scott winery has seen some changes since then. Over the 30 years since its inception, the winery has evolved to keep ahead of the changing demands from the market.
Sandy Cove comes from selected vineyards that are farmed certified sustainably. The fruit is picked at varying ripeness, and with the high natural acidity typical of the region. Marlborough is known for its young soil, hot sunny days and cooler nights. This leads the grapes to maintain their acidity while still having ripe rich fruit.
The grapes are fermented and aged in stainless steel, with a short amount of time aging on its lees.
