Tasting Notes

On the nose, you will find black cherries, cured meat, wood and a touch of pepper. It smells like a wine from the Rhone. The wine is nicely structured with black cherries and black currants that have both sweetness and tartness. Black pepper and woodsy notes permeate the wine.

WINE INFORMATION

Maison Les Alexandrins is the story of three friends combining the savoir-faire acquired from their parents and grandparents and the fruits from beautiful and historic terroirs. Nicolas Jaboulet, the 6th generation of a winegrowing family in Tain lHermitage, Guillaume Sorrel, son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage and Alexandre Caso, a specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhône, joined forces in 2012. They began working parcel by parcel in Crozes-Hermitage for the wines of Maison Nicolas Perrin. In 2015, the name was changed to Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins. Today the company produces a range of Northern Rhône wines that are classic expressions of the region.

This blend mainly comprises Vin de Pays from around the northern slopes of the Rhône, the Ardèche and Drôme from young vines planted approximately 15 years ago on terraces or on the plains.

The 2020 growing season proved challenging due to extremes in temperature and weather patterns. Nonetheless, through major efforts to counter the effects, the production team crafted a wine very classically “Northern Rhône” in style.

After harvest the grapes underwent cold maceration prior to fermentation; maceration and fermentation lasted for a total of two weeks, with pumping over and punching down towards the end. A portion of the wine was subsequently aged for five to six months in stainless steel vats to preserve the wine's fresh and fruity expression, while the other portion was aged in conical wooden vats for the same length of time to promote tannin extraction.
