Terra di Seta Ermo Colle Chianti 2016

Tasting Notes

Macerated dark cherry, leather, licorice, sweet tobacco, cedar all flesh out in the glass. The 2016 is powerful, rich and tannic. ~ Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, September 2020 (93 points).

A beautiful, pure Sangiovese that competes nicely with Brunello, showing depth and tension. A solid line of fine tannins runs through the center of the wine, providing backbone and beauty to the cherry and berry fruit. Drink or hold. ~ James Suckling, James Suckling Magazine, June 2021 (94 points).

WINE INFORMATION

The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is the new top level of Chianti Classico wine’s appellations, making up only about 4% of the total Chianti Classico wine production. For regulation, this wine is produced from only a selection of the estate’s best grapes and must be aged for a minimum of 30 months. In this case, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for two years in French oak barrels and six months in bottle.

This wine is grown organically with very low yields in the vineyards. Vines were planted in 2006 on south-facing, rocky soils in a natural amphitheatre with a dry and windy, Mediterranean climate.

Terra di Seta was started in 2001 by Daniele della Seta and his wife, Maria Pellegrini. The organic farm is on a hill near Siena with a 360-degree view of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The wines are also certified kosher and the estate produces olive oil and honey, as well as runs an osteria (simple food and wine restaurant) using ingredients from their organic gardens.
