Red fruited with dried cherries, currant and cranberry complement the subtle potpourri flower notes. An attractive zinfandel with cherries, chocolate-covered raspberries, fresh blackberry, cocoa, cinnamon and a subtle floral note of rose petals. This wine is medium bodied and succulent with lush texture, medium acid a light tannic grip to ride to the finish.
WINE INFORMATION
Tilth Wines is a project of husband and wife team Jason and Hilary Driscoll, proprietors of Driscoll Wine Company. The priority at Tilth is given to the fruit they source and part of that is the relationship they have with the people that grow that fruit; with that, they have been able to find vines from special pieces of land that have passionate, ethical people tending to that land.
Every year the picking decisions are based on multiple factors: a combination of weather, location, acidity, fruit development and an overall “vibe”. That “vibe” supersedes all of the chemistry that they use as a supporting role in this decision, and that defines what harvest is all about every year. There is no formula; it varies from vintage to vintage. In the cellar the same philosophy is applied, with a minimal intervention approach.
The Zinfandel grapes come from two different vineyards in Lodi (Del Barbara Vineyard and Contra Costa Cherryhouse Vineyard), the Syrah is from the cooler Russian River Valley (Kobler Vineyard) and the Carignan from the Poor Ranch vineyard in Medocino.
After harvest grapes are fermented in open top fermenters with one to two punchdowns a day. The wine is aged for seventeen moths in a combination of French and American oak (20% new).
