This attractive red Burgundy leads with aromas of red currant, raspberry, red cherry, rose and savory elements. On the palate it is medium weight with red cherries and pressed rose mixing with savory soil notes, tomato leaf and cinnamon. This wine is structured by juicy acidity, youthful tannins and a long finish. A classic and a great value.
WINE INFORMATION
The grandfather of the current proprietor, Jean-Michel Jacob, created this domaine based in the village of Echeveronne in the hills of the Cote de Beaune appellation of Burgundy. The estate was subsequently enlarged by Jean-Michel’s father, Lucien, during the 1960s. Since 1994, it’s been run by Jean-Michel, his wife, Christine, and his sister, Chantal.
The domaine originally specialized in growing black currants to make cassis and raspberries to make framboise before the family began to purchase vineyards. They now own nearly 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards, most of which are planted to the region’s red grape, Pinot Noir.
Jean-Michel has worked to reduce yields in the vineyards and has also extended the cuvaison (maceration of juice and skins) to bring more backbone, color and ripe tannin to the wines while maintaining the lovely aromatics and elegance that are the hallmark of wines from this part of the Cote de Beaune. This wine is usually bottled unfiltered after 15 months of élévage in barrel.
