A classy Rioja, medium weight with fine tannins and crisp acid. On the nose it presents black cherries and black berries with a hint of earthiness. The palate is clean and offers red cherries, goji berries and raspberries and a touch of black pepper spice and minerality. This is an elegant, lighter-style Rioja with fine tannins.
WINE INFORMATION
Since 2014, the husband-wife team of Oscar Alegre and Eva Valgañón have embraced the ancient tradition of Rioja, working in tiny lots and giving vine-by-vine attention. They are turning out head-spinning reds and whites that capture the best of their beloved land’s 1,000+ year history.
The basis of any great wine estate is, of course, its vineyards. Oscar and Eva’s families own vineyards which lie just to the west of Haro, in the shadow of the Obarenes Mountains. This area has long been revered by producers for the freshness and persistence they provided in blends.
All estate vineyards are worked with organic and regenerative viticulture; only organic fertilizer is employed and no artificial pesticides are used. Harvesting is done by hand.
The couple follow the long-lost practice of including stems in with the must, as well as choosing to minimize the use of oak, aging for a shorter time and using a mix of sizes from French barriques to foudres, rather than the small, American oak barrels common in Rioja.
