This wine offers abundant aromas of black fruit, cinnamon, rose petals, dried thyme and warm tar with the addition of blackberry jam, nutmeg and cinnamon. The palate is full and structured; there are flavors of plum, blackberries, blueberries, and minerality. The lingering finish tastes pleasantly of plums and mulling spices.
WINE INFORMATION
Foppiano Vineyards is of Italian heritage, full of tradition, perseverance and contributions to the history of Sonoma County and the wine industry. Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Foppiano, Foppiano Vineyards is one of Sonoma County’s oldest continually-operated, family-owned wineries. The family has supplied northern California with wine for over a century, surviving Prohibition in the 1920s by selling home winemaking kits. The Foppiano family is one of the founding members of the Russian River Valley AVA. The winery is located south of Healdsburg and owns 160 acres.
The Foppiano family has been producing world class fruit on this land since its purchase in 1896, and this wine was crafted to celebrate this long-term legacy. The fruit was sourced from the winery’s Estate, as well as from other select vineyards in California. To ensure the wine is not over-extracted with tannin and unbalanced flavors, and to achieve elegant texture with approachable fruit, the winery uses hand punch-downs and light pump-overs for gentle extraction during fermentation. Each varietal is harvested and fermented individually. The wine was aged in 1-year old French and American oak barrels.
