This wine makes you want to smell it forever with beautiful notes of jasmine, honeysuckle, citrus, lychee and peach. On the palate this almost sweet entry is supple and refreshing: honeysuckle, lime, peach and a bit of ginger spice. It is medium in body with medium-plus acidity and medium finish.
WINE INFORMATION
The Setúbal Penisula in Portugal is located south of Lisbon and is particularly noted for the production of fortified wine made from the Muscat (Moscatel) grape. It has a warm maritime climate well suited to grapes. As the fortified wines declined in popularity, the region modernized under the leadership of two local winemakers, one trained at Roseworthy, Australia and the other at UC Davis. Wines use both international and indigenous varieties.
The origins of Jose Maria da Fonseca (the winery that makes this wine) goes back over six generations ago in 1834. They have advanced and made new ways in many different markets but it is dry Moscatel that has defined their history.
Grapes for this wine are planted on limestone and sandy soils and the wine is made by the winemaking team at the winery. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel. The wine is bottled shortly after.
