This is a fresh and fruity white with ripe orchard fruits of white peach, nectarine and pear joining citrus peel, lemon, salinity and stone. This wine is energetic and crisp, yet immensely approachable and tasty.
WINE INFORMATION
This estate, founded in 2000, is located in O Rosal, two miles north of the Miño River and six miles inland from the Atlantic, in the northwest section of Spain, just above Portugal. Its 227 acres of hillside vines include a range of white varieties, with Pontellón based solely on Albariño. The south-facing vines create an ample wine with ripe fruits. The mild climate enables the grapes to mature slowly and thus preserves their varietal aromas, and the soils —granite, sandy and very permeable— help to enhance these aromas and endow the end result with extra finesse.
As for the origin of the name Pontellón for this cuvée, the winery says: “The oldest legends tell that crossing a simple glance with an owl conveys luck and protection for life. We do not know if this legend is totally true or is coincidence, but for years an owl has guarded our vineyards. Pontellón is born in his honor.”
