WINE INFORMATION
Quinta de Cabriz is located between the two main rivers that cross the Dão region, the Mondego and the Dão. It is a secular “quinta” (farm) so along with a 17th century manor house there is also a chapel. This is one of the most famous “quintas” of the Dão region with 38 hectares of vineyards in an integrated production system and a winery equipped with the most modern wine technology.
Located in the province of Beira Alta in north-central Portugal, the Dão DOC has the reputation for some of the best red wines in the country. It is surrounded by the mountains, and vineyards are planted in the granite soils between 400 and 700 meters. Pine trees adorn the area, which experiences a continental climate, with shelter from the surrounding mountains: winters are cold and rainy; summers are hot and dry. In 1908, Dao became the second RD wine region after Douro. Its most important red varietals are Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, and Tinta Roriz; and Encruzado, Bical, Cercial, Malvasia Fina and Verdelho for the whites.
Touriga Nacional is a produces full body wines with the aging potential of Cabernet Sauvignon. Often used blended to make port, it is increasingly being used for single varietal dry red wine.
Grapes are destemmed and crushed prior to fermentation and long skin maceration. A proportion of the wine is aged in oak barrels.
